hi folks

Kingskettle in fife? is it a nice place, looking on the map it looks like a small village which is what we are looking for, would this fit the bill, or any other small villages that would suit, thanks again.

Bear in mind that, in general, inland Scotland does not have that many pretty, pretty small villages. Some pretty places on the coast, but inland villages (there are very few in the NW or West of Scotland) tend to be pretty functional rather than pretty.

thanks SILH, we currently live a a lovely wee village, and are looking similar, something with 20 mile commute of Dundee. I know that monifieth and Broughty Ferry are well sought after, but was looking something quiet, and close to what we have now. thanks

It's only my opinion and a gross generalisation. There are lovely inland villages in Scotland but I don't really know inland Angus and Fife (though I did once go for a job in Lochgelly...I was told no-body 'professional' who worked at the place lived in Lochgelly - if I took the job I'd live in Kirkaldy)

I note you are coming across from NI - rather than England - in which case your expectations of what constitutes a pretty village may well be different (I don't believe many NI villages are quite Cotswold village pretty)

Perhaps you haven't travelled to extensively round Northern Ireland mate, we live in a nice quiet little gold award winning village, we are not Belfast, which is pretty ugly imo, but 35 miles north, enroute to the north coast, its not built up, nice houses and a good primary school. Quite rural, but in the middle of nowhere.

I haven't much - and apologies if what I said sounded disparaging about NI villages. My observation was simply that I know folks who have lived in 'Cotswold pretty' villages in England and moving to Scotland have been disappointed at the look of many inland Scottish villages. They are generally very different.

Kettle is a nice wee village mate despite what has been said. Got friends that stay there, quiet and out the way but close enough to routes for Dundee, Perth and Edinburgh.

Just to add, don't rule out the likes of Auchtermuchty. It's handy for Dundee as well.

Kingskettle is fine. It would put you very close to Ladybank golf club which would be an excellent option to have nearby.

You're very close to a decent commuter route for Dundee on the A92.

Thanks Grieg, we looked at auctermuchty and Kirriemuir, have a wee look at as many places as I can but it hard when on pc as only getting a photo to see.
No probs silh, thanks for the input.

Please don't get me wrong. I know that there a nice villages (though don't know Fife and Angus very well - Lochgelly being that which I know best). But if you were coming from some parts of England (and I missed that @JT77 was coming from NI) you might be disappointed by the majority - because outside of the Highlands they were often mining villages or simply a agricultural business 'hub' for all the small scattered townships, and frankly in many cases are really not that attractive - compared with villages in many areas of England - and particularly the south of England.

This hole you're digging for yourself is getting deeper and deeper!
