Hospital Parking

I think it should be free, but limited to those who really need it.

Public transport infrastructure should replace the need for huge and expensive hospital car parks. If anyone can then use a park and ride or public transport instead they should try.

We are really lucky in Cambridge that our hospital is served by at least 3 park and rides on all corners of the city plus a guided busway. All these are very simple and involve pretty much the same walking distance as choosing one of the onsite car parks!

How it is defined who really needs it depends on the status of the public transport I guess. I wish all hospitals were served by buses as well as Addenbrookes is, I have not even mentioned the many other bus routes that go to the hospital outside of the park and ride/ guided busway.

That's the crux. What if the hospital isn't well service and what if they are trying to charge staff who have no choice but to drive and can't car share.

Then there is the other issues. Who enforces the parking. If it's an outside agency then the trust isn't making much revenue. If they are making revenue while employing an outside agency then they are charging extortionate amounts. I can understand the need for parking control at hospitals close to shopping or work areas where it would be a handy option but to see parking charges start to get introduced at hospital where there is no other reason to be there than to work or attend is ridiculous.
