Hospital Parking

And then there is the staff, HID is being moved so now faces a .7 mile walk from nearest parking to her new unit, just what you want when working 12 hour shifts

My wife works in the Pharmacy dept of Warwick hospital and has parking fees taken out of her salary, and no guarantee of a parking space. Scandalous Hope your wife is on the mend.

Was my comment - the staff have to pay to park themselves, day in, day out. Ain't on.

Fair play to Christies though in Manchester, recent visits on their all day car parks and ya charged just £1.50 for the full day.

I understand your frustration, especially if your wife or any loved one is going to be in for a long period of time. However as someone who works at a trust suffering a budget deficit, the revenue raised is crucially important. I know when I was seriously ill in 2006 and my wife was visiting every day for three and a half weeks how expensive it was. I hope she gets well soon

Homer, knowing where u work, my kids have both been in for minor operations in December and the place is a nightmare!! I dread having to go there and chose any other hospital in the area over it. The car park is truly awful!

I don't know how u cope if you drive to work and have to prk there!!! Both times cost was not an issue as got a free permit thing from the kids ward, I know it's a town centre hospital so it does have great public transport links, just not from people out in the sticks!

I do feel for you having to commute there everyday, I would be visiting the psych ward if I had to!!

But how many employees anywhere get free parking?

Some, yes but most don't, wherever they work.

Back to OP my 80yr old mam got taken to hospital on Friday night after us having to wait 5hrs for the ambulance (the cuts to nhs and services are certainly taking its toll)and I've since been to see her Sat/Sun and both days it's cost me £3.30.

It's a private Q park multi storey but that's probably the closest and safest place to park. There is no free or cheaper parking on the roads around the hospital.

I agree but don't forget about the politician's who bleed the system too.

When the 2 paramedics came they couldn't apologise enough but we know it's not their fault, they're only doing a job and a great one at that.

I commute by train and walk from the station. We do have a floor for staff in the car park and we've negotiated some parking at a local town centre multi story but so many staff struggle to park let alone patients and visitors. It's an issue but with all the local roads permit holder only (resident parking) and patrolled to the hilt by ticket wardens (or whatever they are called now) it makes it very hard. No idea what the solution is. The trust already has cycle to work scheme (would you in todays weather?) car share schemes, season ticket loans etc so it's working hard to give the staff as much help as possible. It's the patients and visitors I have the most sympathy with but again, demand outstrips spaces and we've normally got the car par full sign out by mid morning

Perhaps Nottingham has a blueprint to ease the problem. There are two major hospitals and visitors can leave their cars at two Park and Ride sites with a free shuttle bus every 10 minutes travelling from one site to the other visiting both hospitals.

Nothing new and much wider than hospitals. It's all because we won't vote for increased taxes.....which is the other way to sort this out unpalatable as that sounds. Yes, council tax has been frozen etc but the real impact of that is that is that councils have to cut anything that's non essential and wring whatever extra cash they can out of the local population. NHS is no different and parking is an easy target for both. Bottom line is that we get the services we pay for. Central government happy to see so many jump on the immigration or scroungers bandwagon as it deflects from the main cause which is lack of public finance due to years and years of unfair cuts while the well off carry on completely unaffected by so called austerity....bet BUPA hospitals have free parking??

I'm pretty sure I saw a thread on here a while back which basically said that fines in private car parks for going over time are unenforceable. So pay the fee for one hour, stay as long as you like and if you get a fine send them the parking fee for the extra time you stayed. Apparently they're only entitled to claim what is "reasonable" which in most cases is the parking fee that has been denied them by you using the space that someone else would have paid for.
