As long as they don't drop a ball down their trouser leg in the rough, pinch an inch on from their ball marker or improve their lie in any way I couldn't care less what anyone I play with for a few hours on the course gets up to
You'd hate playing with a "mate" of mine then. Been playing with him for years, he is one of a group of mates that I play with reasonably regularly. Problem is, everybody is worried that if they say something to him it is going to create a bad atmosphere within the group. I nearly reared up at him in Cornwall last week-end. On the green at the third hole, he was quite a way from the cup and I watched him as he walked over to his ball, took his marker out of his pocket and threw it onto the green about a foot or so in front of his ball. Picked his ball up, cleaned it, and then replaced it directly in front of the marker!! I couldn't believe what I had just seen. And then on the 6th hole, (par 3 where he was getting a shot) he dumped his ball into the water, dropped and chipped on, two putted and declared a 5. Nothing wrong in that I thought until one of my other friends told me that his second putt from about 5 feet had been with the pin in! I marked him down for a blob. And on every single round I have ever played with him he will get his score wrong on a hole at least once. It's never more than he has taken though, always less. Another member from the site played with him at Chartham Park a couple of months ago and I warned him before he teed off to watch for my "mate" and to keep an eye on his scoring. When they came back to the clubhouse I asked if he had "mis-counted" at all, and sure enough he had on one hole, declaring a 5 instead of a 6.
