Holidays 2025

Booked a week in August at a brand new 5* hotel in Corfu. It opened on 1st May, and the reviews have been terrible! Was hoping it was just teething issues, but 2 months later, the reviews were no better and the problematic issues were not getting addressed.

Went into TUI shop at the weekend to see what our options were. We couldn’t see a suitable alternative in Corfu, but had seen somewhere in Cyprus that looked ideal. Girl in the shop told us it was impossible to change as it would be treated as a cancellation and we would lose 90% of what we had already paid.

We came away resigned to having to stick with our original booking. I then decided to try phoning the call centre just to see what they said. Explained the situation, the agent says please hold while I calculate the cost to change. She came back 2 minutes later and said the cost to change was £120! Snapped her hand off 😀

So a good outcome but am narked at the girl in the shop giving us such a bum steer.

This year first holiday with my new partner and she is a teacher. Basically you get half as much for twice as much in the school holidays. Bring back my days of holidays in May or November
Indeed, we are off to Cornwall this weekend for two weeks in a farmhouse on the coast. Same holiday in three weeks time is £1000 more expensive!

After saying this wouldn't be a year of huge spending we're currently looking at
  • Switzerland at the end of the month - tickets for the women's euros semis and final in Geneva, Zurich and Basel
  • A stag do in Prague, landing late the night before H4H, apologies to anyone in my group!
  • Canada for most of September, my oldest mate moved out to Vancouver island 18 months ago so going to see him. Getting a trip to Toronto and the rockies in as well "while we're there"!
  • Hopefully Madrid for the Commanders at the Bernabeu, if we can get tickets!
This thread is just an excuse for some to brag. 🤣

We're looking at Mexico for our 50's in 2 years time. Never been long haul but just started looking. Looking at TRS Yukatan, Riviera Maya. I'm really not sure if I'll like it but my wife would love to just chill, enjoy the restaurants, maybe go to the beach but essentially do not a lot for 7-10 days!

Whereabouts in Crete do you go?

Yukatan is nice but if you can push that extra go to the palace riviera maya - stunning hotel. It’s worth noting on that development is a great golf course ;)

Never been to Crete but apparently we’re going to sussi?

Dont know about New Year specifically, but for Florence, I'd aim to avoid any Italian public holidays. We went without realising it was the 1st of May PH and the crowds were horrendous.

Interesting. We did the few few days after Christmas inc new years in Rome thus year and flew back on the 2nd, it was mega!

Excellent, cheers. Golf course you say!

Crete's beautiful. We stay in small village called Koutoulafari.

We loved Mexico.
Stayed at the Riu Tequila in playa del carmen, would definitely recommend it.
We had a night out in cancun, was good for a night out but glad we weren’t stopping there.

We are staying there in October, can’t wait. First choice was the Riu Yucatan but I’d read rumours online that there will be a big refurb there this year. Not bothered about the beach and I’m not going to lie, the 24hr sports bar at Tequila was a big deciding factor for me 🤣

It’s a few years since we were there, but it’s best resort I’ve been to.
Food & entertainment was spot on.
if you do want to go to the beach there’s golf buggies running all day to take you, even tho its only a 5 min walk.
Very jealous.

Strange thing to say we are going to Mexico lol but I just hope they do legit Mexican food. Last time we went (west coast) I had Huevos Rancheros for breakfast every morning and they had a dedicated Mexican station at the main buffet I used to visit every evening. I was in proper food heaven 🙏

The buggy track is between yakatun and the palace, I’m sure your wrist bands mean you can lunch and drink at either of the two if you’re at tequila. Pepe’s grill at palace offered great burgers during the afternoon.

FYI, depending on the time of year you can get a lot of seaweed, I think they said it’s Feb-June.

Now you say it I seem to remember it washed up on the beach, but they cleared it 1st thing.

I’d also add,the jet skis are a must.
It’s weird how the sea goes from light blue to dark really quick.
Apparently there’s a sudden drop in the bottom of the ocean.

Well Disney cruises is so much more on the ball than Disneyland Paris. I checked in last night.. was a simple "copy details from other form" for our party rather than DLP having to type every time . Was able to photo each passport and it pulled the information instead of typing and then tonight "Micky and Minnie" called the kids to welcome them aboard and look forward to seeing them soon. They loved it. Such a simple thing

Sounds like a complete nightmare to me, but I’m sure your kids will love it.

Na the cruise is amazing. Imagine a cruise (which are already brill) but with Disney characters walking round for the kids and gaint water slides around the deck!

Full on west end Disney shows every night

Beautiful
