Hole in one

My mates family play an annual comp between themselves. In the final between two brothers being caddied by the other brother and father. The highest handicap player (26) of them all, hit the family's very first ace on the 3rd hole. He went on to win the final by one hole.

A magical moment for them all.

My first one was when I'd been playing for a couple of years, about 15 years ago. My 2nd one was just before Xmas this year during a winter league match. A perfect 8 iron 154 yards and pitched pin high and spun sideways in - it also helped me score my best ever home round score of 71 or 72 (Matchplay)

When do you celebrate Xmas like? ;)

just the one in a comp but it was a temp green due to damage, plus it was about 50 years ago. Been trying ever since.

Took a friends two 11 year olds to play the Queens course at Gleneagles once, one of them aced the 17th (tough 220yd par 3) when his driver tee shot skittered along the ground, round the contours and down the hole like a rat down a drainpipe. He missed it as he had turned away in disgust with his low skittery one:eek:

Never had one. Seen one, my Dad. A bladed wedge that Barnes-Wallaced its way to the green and rolled through a wet bunker, up the face onto the green and in...Worst hole in 1 of all time!

I have had 2. One on the 15th at Seaham which is to date the best shot I think I have ever hit, a 2 iron into a howling gale. The other was on the 6th of the Old Moray old course.

Have seen a few others, including a pp getting a hole-in-3.

I was also stood approx 10ft from Greg Owen when he holed his 2nd for an albatross on the 11th (iirc) at Royal Lytham in the 2001 Open.

Had three - all last year

One in a bounce game

One in a matchplay comp

One in a club match

My one and only came on the 15th at Seaham,

one last year, playing on own, was fortunate to be called through on a par 3 by a there-ball who witnessed it... it was their first-person witness of one too.

My one and only came on the 15th at Seaham,

I was a member at Seaham many years ago (pre '96) and always thought it could be a pretty tough hole. With the equipment as it was back then it could play anything from an 8iron to a 2iron depending on the wind and a tiny green.

I actually saw someone else make a 1 there, someone playing in the group behind me while I was playing a team game.

I've had 2.
The second of which was on the 6th hole of a 4BBB match, moving our pairing to 5up after 6.
Dodn't win another hole and tied the match!

I witnessed 2 in a week from the same guy playing behind me.
Also witnessed CVG getting one on our 12th - he's had one on our 15th too.
I had an unofficial one in '97.
Unofficial as I was the only person on the entire course at the time. I was between jobs and played every day whilst job hunting. This particular afternoon was quiet so no witnesses.
And I don't care if nobody believes me!!

Had my first one last October - 185 yards!

I have only been playing for a couple of years so it's come early for me.

This may have been done (more than likely has been) but I'm new to this forum and assume so too are others. I did search the topic but it returned nothing.

So simple question - Have you had one? several, many, or like me, has this feat eluded you thus far in your golfing career. What were they like (textbook or jammy) How big a dent did it put in your wallet?

Long term inmates please feel free to swerve this thread unless you can't resist reliving your triumphs once again. :one:

Had one in a comp on the 16th of the Bruce at Kinross Golf Club. They took my details and posted me out an engraved crystal tankard marking the feat which was a lovely touch. It's gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere now :D
