Hogmany 2013/14

High golf saint, was up in Edinburgh a couple of years ago and dec 30th was fantastic walking up Carlton hill with the lit torches! really really enjoyed that? However New Year's Eve on princess street was a bit of a nightmare. The entertainment was average-good but was a massive squeeze. The queues for the toilets were horrendous and I mean horrendous. Imagine thousands of folk queening for the toilets. They were all individual toilets with men and women in the same queue. If they sort that out then that's half the problem sorted. The worst bit was when the fireworks had finished. It seemed everyone was trying to get out at the same time. It was frightening. Wait 30 mins whilst most of the folk have gone before you try to get out.

on New Year's Day we were talking to a couple in our. B& B and they booked tickets for a hall inside the princess st arena which had disco etc and it's own toilets I don't know how much they were but you could go in and out of princess street and they were raving about it.

one last thing, take your own liquid refreshments in (hidden) and wrap up coz it was flipping freezing warm socks etc.
happy Hogmanay.

Just arrived with hid in Edinburgh for hogmany -hopefully it gonna be fun :D
Already tasted the local beverge ;)
Just wondered has anybody else done a hogmany and whats it like ?

everyone in Scotland :smirk: the street party is overhyped unless you like being crushed by a crowd of drunks. Pubs are the place to be:thup:

Hey, it might be worth going just to witness that!

Slime.

The last Hogmany in Princes Street that I went to was the Millenium. I had been to every one before that, but as said in previous posts, it has become over-hyped and a massive crush even though it is ticket only. Great atmosphere though!

Hi yeah have heard it could be a squeeze so we have brought tickets anyway as we were not sure. but now we are booked into hotel the view of the castle from our hotel room is amazing so also a back up.
Could even throw a stone at it ! from the grassmarket area. the the pubs are good !;)

Hogmanay ;)

Used to go to the Tron but ever since they started issuing tickets for it I've not been back.

I shall be in The Bow Bar until it closes at 6pm on the 31st when I shall retire to Edinburghs Riviera for a few light ales prior to my annual dip in the Firth of Forth, bottom of Bath Street @ 2.15pm on NYD.I should still be lightly toasted from the previous evening so shouldn't feel the pain.

Then back home for Steak pie and Tennents.

Well mr an missis tash are at east midlands airport on the san miguel. Cos chicken run airlines to sin city is delayed. Airport beer prices. Ah well cheaper than amsterdam.

anyone know the origins of steak pie at new years?

We went for the cheap option and didn't pay for a castle view. We were on the fifth floor a few doors down too!

Lovely place to stay. I've stayed with work a few times and took the OH there last year. We enjoyed it that much we went back this year.

Yeah lovely hotel, if the street party tom night is to bad it will either be the grassmarket pubs and pop out at midnight or see fireworks from our room !
