Hoarding/Flipping golf clubs

Inspired by some discussions in "I bought today..." thread... it seems like there are serial "flippers" buying/selling clubs regularly and then there are those who buy and keep multiple sets/clubs.
  • Are you a flipper or a hoarder?
  • How many clubs in total you currently have in your house?
I'm a hoarder. Doesn't seem much point in selling a perfectly working club for peanuts (£30 for a hybrid?), better keep it in case a friend/relative needs one at some point 😎

So I have the grand total of 63 clubs + 12 junior = 75. That's mostly sets of irons (5), 4 drivers, 2 woods, 4 hybrids, 5 wedges, 5 putters. Personally, I'd say for accumulating it over 10 years it's relatively modest 😂

I sell most of my old clubs on eBay - it helps pay for the new ones, and there's no point keeping an old club that you've upgraded. I do wait a couple of weeks to make sure I'm happy with the new one of course. The only ones I haven't sold are, as you say, the ones where the value is too low to bother with. So aside from the clubs in my bag I only have about 3 or 4 sitting in the cupboard. One of them is the Cobra F9 five wood that I've recently replaced with a 3 wood - I might keep that one for a while since it wasn't a direct replacement, and I may decide to bring it back in at some point since it matches the 7 wood I'm still using. But old iron sets, drivers etc definitely get moved on - the new ones are too expensive not to.

Reformed hoarder but still have about 100 clubs kicking about.

Obviously a few sets of irons bumps that number considerably.

Have around 10 putters.

The bag is fairly stable this last few years. Minor tweaks.

I used to hold onto clubs but now I am a one in one out person. I have no usable spares.

The old clubs I still have go way back and are largely worthless. I would be too embarrassed to even give them to a charity shop. It seems wrong to take them to a tip, not sure what to do with them.

My wife started doing boot sales a couple of times in the summer so I gave her an old Dunlop 60 to sell. She couldn't even get 3 quid for it. :ROFLMAO:

I used to be a hoarder but after treatment I'm now cured. All I've got left are a selection of wedges which swap in and out depending on type of course and conditions.

I used to be a hoarder but now only have my set that I use and 6 putters if I get a new one then one has to go. As it’s easy to start collecting putters.
Used to love collecting ping ones.

Never been a hoarder but occasionally guilty of "flipping" when trying to solve a "problem" club or problem "yardages".

Outside of my bag in my signature I've got the following lying around...

Ping Rapture Mini-Driver
Callaway Ai Smoke 3HL hybrid
LAB DF 2.1 putter
Gauge Design Tera putter
Fourteen BR III putter
Cleveland LDI driving iron
Fourteen U-660 driving iron
2 TM Hi-Toe 3 wedges
3 Vega wedges
3 Cleveland 900 BRZ wedges
1 Callaway MD3 wedge
1 Titleist 355 copper wedge
5 Vega wedge heads
2 Dave Hicks putter heads

so yeah...I'd guess wedges are my real downfall :D

Hoarder in almost all aspects of golf. I don't buy clubs all that often so each set has some real sentimental value with rounds and shots hit. My wife has started to put some pressure on me as I've also started collecting hickories. I do get rid of wedges as I do buy them a bit more frequently. We've also agreed that anytime I buy a new cap or golf polo I have to get rid of one.

The thing she doesn't get is I have almost every scorecard from every round. It's somewhat fun to go back and look at the various places and people I've played with. Kind of like how it used to be looking at photo albums...it brings back memories.

Edit: Also probably have 100,000 tees as I pick them up whenever I see them on the ground and people are plain wasteful/lazy.

The reason for my recent mad flipping is due to an improving game and unlikely to buy much else in the near future.

I tend to keep what I am replacing, just to make sure the choice works, but then they're gone!

Clubs are easy to buy and easy to sell, as long as you avoid the nigerian scammers who populate Facebook. Places like GCFC give as much money as private sales with less hassle too.

Generally move them straight on but I have a couple of exceptions:

* apex hybrids 17/20/23*. Only one goes in the bag so chose the loft depending on the course / conditions and whether the 6w is in. At the moment it’s 4w, 6w, 23* then 5i but the 6w is due a holiday.

* there a new scotty that entered the bag recently but it’s on probation. If the old one goes back in then it’ll be up for sale.

The only hoarded clubs are the mid 60’s pinseekers and 92 tm’s but they are the winter fun sets.

I’m a flipper. Really enjoy finding a bargain on Facebook or eBay and selling it on. I’ll usually give them a try first to see if they’re better than what I’ve got in the bag, and then I’ll sell that instead.

I did consider making a business out of it but I haven’t really got the buying power needed to get it off the ground.

The only spare club I’ve kept is a putter. I always got on well with it but really wanted the one I use now. Usually I’d sell the original, but I think putters can blow hot and cold quite easily so I’m keeping it as a back up for emergencies!

I buy clubs with the intention of selling or trading in the old ones but rarely seem to get around to it.
But each of the 3 1/2 sets of irons has been used for at least 1 round this year, the 2 drivers alternate about once a month and the hybrids and wedges are regularly rotated, as the mood takes me.
I've only got 1 fairway wood though.
And about 10 putters; 9 of them haven't been outside the garage in a couple of years.

Never been a hoarder. Always moved them on to stop me going back and forth between a new set & an old set, then back to the new set. If I bought a new set and it was, er, faulty it got replaced and sold. Went through a period over 7-8 years when I changed irons at least once a year.

Was beginning to turn into a hoarder this year as I bought a driver and 3 wood but didn't like them, bought another 3 wood which I do like and went back to my old driver. Both the ones bought this year sat in the garage for months but I stuck them on eBay this week. I also have 3 old wedges and 2 old putters in the garage, probably keep 1 of the putters but I need to get the other stuff on eBay as well.

Bought the driver from Callaway preowned for £100 and sold it for £120 so I guess I'm a flipper now.

Irons are 5 years old and back to using my 5 year old Epic Flash driver. Not sure when I'm going to change them.

I'm a hoarder. Probably 10 sets of irons, a few drivers, 15 or so putters, fairway woods and hybrids, and about 25 wedges. All stored in various golf bags.
Need to reduce!
