I was the same, but now accept it's for the good of the course come spring time and I try and slow down and not "hit" the ball. Seems to work most of the time.I totally accept the issue is in my head, not hiding from this![]()
Out of curiosity, when you hit a full shot off a mat, what exactly is the outcome? Fat, thin, shank, pull?Anyone else struggle with this? So many folk say this is easier than off grass, it’s the opposite for me. Have been hitting so many bad 2nd shots off the mat, I’ve had to resort to hitting little 100 yard punch shots just to get round.
I’ve tried 3 different mats including a Spurk, none of them work for me.
^^^^ is the answerTry going down the grip the equivalent of the thickness of the mat and taking one club more
The use of a fairway mat is not allowed on a teeing area. Check page 4 of link. Model Rule E 12.I always said I would never play off a mat but guess what they introduced them last year and I love mine. Much better than playing off wet ground. I know someone who puts his mat on the temp tee mat and plays off that too.

I don't know if it would help but whenever I have problems off the mat I take a couple of practise swings making sure that I strike the mat solidly, I mean solid. I feel it helps re-enforce my need to really get down to the mat with the club - no thins.A mixture of thins, and ugly slices/shanks.
