I was playing in a comp Monday when I was hit on the head full toss by a drive from another hole.
Guy hit a tree in front of their tee and did not shout fore as they lost the ball flight.
I was on the right side of my hole and all I remember was a bell going off in my head and hitting the floor.
I have never been knocked out before it’s not a nice thing to go through.
I woke up with people all around me ,I could hear what they were saying but couldn’t move.
20mins wait for ambulance and off to A&E ,took time to get to me on the course.
Had a head scan and relived to find all was ok ,just bad cut on my head.
Concussion and dizzy spells now but thankfully not as bad as it could have been.

My total admiration to the NHS ,from ambulance staff to the hospital staff we really don’t value them enough!

I have been trying to find a golf protection cap to no avail. That dosnt look like I am going to work.
Lots in the states but none here.
So it’s a bump hat from screwfix for now.
I might make one of my own and patent it while I am out of action. Lol
Goes to show how dangerous a game can be and could have ended much worse.
So be careful out there.

Christ that is awful. Glad to hear you're ok. Any plans to sue the offending golfer, particularly given that he didn't shout fore??

Not really !
The lad was shook up ,he came to see me in A&E .
I don’t like taking advantage of situations like this , tomorrow it could be me hitting a tree.
I think it was a genuine accident .
My ribs and neck are a bit sore so might need a physio to have a look.
As for a law suit , no unless things get worse in the next few days.

I got hit in the shoulder one time and the response was "sorry mate, it went over the tree and I couldn't see it".

It's the same here. If you hit it offline and cant see the flight then "shout fore".

Yes I would have had time to protect myself if he had shouted.
As the ball still travelled about 200yds after hitting the tree.

Glad to hear you are ok after that. Having been stood next to someone who got hit on his temple I know how you and he may feel. Fortunately for my PP, the arm of his glasses saved him quite a bit.

I am sure that his wayward shot wasn't deliberate, so I wouldnt be considering any further action unless things went seriously belly up.

Hope you heal quickly:)

Thank you.
I can’t belive anyone hits it deliberately at someone.
He told me” it hit the tree and I thought it just dropped down”
I have no reason to dispute that.
I have retired now so work is not an issue / money etc.
I can’t drive witch is a pain as we mind the grandkids Thursday/Friday.
I am counting myself as lucky as it could have been a lot worse.

It's quite an explosion when a ball hits you in the head, hope there's no damage and you recover quickly. I know how you feel, it happened to me a couple of years ago. Was my own ball too, hit with a 5 iron, came straight up off a root and smashed me in the eye socket. Missed my eye ball by about 1/2 cm, completely pole axed me, but fortunately it wasn't lights out. Was playing in a pairs comp at the time, after stemming the flow of blood from the cut, foolishly got up and played another 12 holes to finish the round.

Nice to hear you recovered ok.
But I was going nowhere after that.
Massive bell ring in my head and then nothing.
They said I was out 2/3 mins but coudnt move once I came through.
Scary situation just playing golf.

It did take a while to feel comfortable hitting golf shots again and even now, I will not play if the ball is lodged near tree roots.

Yes I can imagine it’s a psychological thing.
I am going to be out a couple of weeks .

Nobody seen any protection caps yet ?
as I do think I will need one for this exact reason
I imagine the first time I hear a shout of “fore “ panic mode.

I once got hit on the back of the head.

Was kind of my fault I guess.

My mate was on the other side of the fairway in the rough.

He hit a 7 iron and pulled it straight left. Was one of those ones which travels at head height.

Luckily it hit me just where the neck and the head meet. I went down initially on my knees but it wasn't horrendous. Continued to play and actually made a par on that hole.

I did get concussion once during a rugby match. My advice, never be the first one to run into the start of a mass brawl.

Glad you are ok and hope there is no long lasting damage.

I can’t see how that’s your fault .
I usually never get ahead of my pps. For that reason.

I googled it and found this: https://www.ribcap.com/collections/summer/products/ribcap-soft-protective-helmet-baseball-chin-strap
It doesn't look great, but maybe if you take the chinstrap off you'd get away with it. Seems pretty expensive as well.

Glad you are ok, it is a nasty thing to happen. Hope the concussion stays away.

It was a vicar with a 6i on the second for me. Massive hollow bong noise, and down I went.

Never even thought of sueing. It was just an accident. Hand of God, almost.
