Realise this is a class course and there was a forum meet last year.

Last year the price for Open's was £55 and The Comps were all full within a day.

This year Hillside have raised the price to £75 and after 2 weeks' only half the places are taken. This proves to mee in these difficult times that golfers are not as stupid as Hillside would make you believe.

What do you think and how are you own Open's priced.

thats just greed that
ive notice rockliffe in darlington is £80 a pair in there opens this yea
not sure what last year was but its wasnt that

the year before last Woburn was £65 in Aug - can't remember the exact details for last year but I remember being shocked - maybe £90?

Have the green fees gone up too?
I see they are presently £115 for a round so £75 is still cheap (relatively speaking)

I'd say the set the entry fee too low last year if it filled up that quickly. £75 is still great value against their normal £115 greenfee and you'll be playing off the Whites I'd imagine. I would think all places will still be taken come June though ;)

Its cheaper than the green fee and you get to play off the comp tees. No doubt it will have been well prepared for the comp and there's a chance of a decent prize.

Personally, I think its great value for money.

Just looked at the booking system for this event, it's the same price for members as visitors. If I was a member there I wouldn't be too happy about that!

The ladies team open has gone up from £175 to £250 per team, I would still pay it but its on a thursday, which is our comp day. barely a quarter of the tee times have been taken.

Why ? It's an open comp it's not a closed club competition. Why should members pay less ?

35% off the visitor fee, organised competition, presumably a prize table and soup and sandwiches included - looks like a bargin to me!

Me and Qwerty are in it.

It was about £55 2-3 years ago. It filled up online in about 15 minutes, and the mate I asked to sort it, couldn't.I played in the meet last year and loved the course. It is pricy, and I think they are taking advantage, but I seen it as a chance to play it again at a biggish discount.

Hillside is a great course, I'm happy paying it, looking forward to it.

It is pricing a lot of people out of it, as it isn't full 2 weeks later, I think it will fill up in the coming weeks though.

Pedro what time you booked in for?

I might book on.

Because that's the way most open competitions are run! The members have already paid their annual subs so they usually are only contributing towards catering and prize fund, not green fees.

I've just tried to find the e-mail but can't, unless it's on my work one.

I thing it may be 10.32, there is a spec at 10.40, so if your going for it book that one, we won't be far away from then.

Unless Qwerty confirms the time....

Ive just checked it and didn't realise it was a pairs comp :(

Not in my experience. Any open I've ever played in in the members pay the same as visitors.

Me Liverbirdie,QWERTY and NWJocko played in this open comp yesterday and it was well worth the money.

The course was in fantastic nick, the wind was brutal and the rough was punishing although we found most of our balls. The greens were very fast but true.

It was betterball pairs with me & Liverbirdie and qwerty & jocko. After 9 holes we both had 16pts and anything around 16-20 pts was a very good score due to conditions. We came back in 19pts with a total of 35pts and when we left 38pts was leading which is low for a betterball comp.

We also had a carvery lunch afterwards included in the £75 fee.

A great day on a fantastic course just a shame we couldn't threaten the winners score.

I can't wait to get back there and play it again.

I feel I need to get back there too Stu, Unfinished business.
i felt good going out, striking the ball ok, but I think it's a course that can easily overwhelm you. And after a few silly mistakes and bad decisions that's what happened. I think it's fair to say the course beat me.

It is shame though that you can't play the likes of Hillside more regular at a reasonable price.

Your 19 points on the back 9 was very respectable and with a bit of luck on the front 9 maybe you could of threatened the prizes. Although I'm not sure Hillside does luck. It's been pretty calm when I've played it in the past but after yesterday I'd have it up there with Lytham and Southerness as the toughest Ive played.
