Hillside Gof Club - greedy or otherwise!

Not greed it's basic economics of supply and demand, if you can fill the comp at a higher price then why not, they are a business after all and people can choose to pay it or not.

I'd pay it to play there, it's £115 for a general visitor so £75 off the comp tees with the course at its best is good value in comparison.

I feel I need to get back there too Stu, Unfinished business.
i felt good going out, striking the ball ok, but I think it's a course that can easily overwhelm you. And after a few silly mistakes and bad decisions that's what happened. I think it's fair to say the course beat me.

It is shame though that you can't play the likes of Hillside more regular at a reasonable price.

Your 19 points on the back 9 was very respectable and with a bit of luck on the front 9 maybe you could of threatened the prizes. Although I'm not sure Hillside does luck. It's been pretty calm when I've played it in the past but after yesterday I'd have it up there with Lytham and Southerness as the toughest Ive played.

I need to go play there, not played it all yet!

I think you guys were missing Flat cap bandit section :D

It was blowing pretty hard at Davyhulme yesterday so i can imagine it was very tough over there at Hillside!

Glad you all enjoyed yourselfs playing there next month in the seniors open, can't wait only £75 and worth every penny.

sounds good to me.................and a Carvery included.......I know someone who would have loved that

We're holding a Mid Age Open this year for first time. Over 35s only. Might enter that. Max Handicap 18 - Friday pm. £36 include coffee and bacon roll and 2 course dinner after. Prizes for 1st and 2nd Scratch and Handicap.

Formby and Hillside for a March meet, if Formby do the £55 deal again? If Hillside match Royal Liverpool's price (for the Monday), I think it would be a cracking meet. Get on the blower, lar.

I think the carvery was an afterthought, as it was never originally advertised as included. They had 4 tee times still unsold, so maybe they felt they had over-priced it. A nice touch anyhow.

The course was magnificent, but we were off the blues (whites are further back). It was very tough. I was 11 over gross front nine (the easier nine???). 4 over gross the back nine, which I was well happy with.

Just checked the results.

43 points won (the last group to come in) - always the way.

40 points 2nd place

Mine and Stuey's 35 doesn't look so bad now.

I agree 100% with you Valentino.

Sounds like a winner to me

Hillside might need some blagging though :D

Imagine how jocko feels today after the way his game unfolded.....

As for the course its well worthy of its top 30 place especially when you've got the likes of hoylake higher when I think its head and shoulders above it.
,
It was tough out there but in a weird way so enjoyable, perhaps that may've just been the company ;)

There was 4 empty slots but I reckon there was over 100 pairs throughout the day.

If you stop putting like a tart we would've won

Cheers big man :)

Just one of those days, after a reasonable first few holes everything unravelled pretty quick! I think I was trying to chase it a little after that rather than just play each hole on its own which just led things from bad to worse rapidly.

Just glad I didn't put you and LB off with my appalling play! I owe Qwerty his bodyweight in ale (not your's though big man eh ;) for having to put up with me as a "partner". Reckon my score must have counted on about 3 holes of 18?

As for the OP, I was happy to pay £75 for a course like that and would do it again in a heartbeat. If there's a meet next year I'll be there or entering their open again.

thats good to hear, when I was at my last club I could get people on with me in a 4 ball for £35 a head saving them about £120ph. The amount of moans I'd still hear even at that price for 3 stunning courses just made me stop offering.

£75 with a meal is fantastic value for hillside IMO, was similar price for the GM meet last sept.
A quality course in peak seasonno wonder there were 100 or so pairs entered.

Gleneagles isn't worth what they charge for a full fee, it's probably worth £75 a round but no more.

£35 is good value for all 3 courses though, love the Queens, aint played it for a couple of years now.

Think there is another 4BBB in September, same script.
Think it may be midweek though.
I'd be up for that if there's enough interest - well worth it.

Just checked - Thursday 19th Sept.
Plenty of slots from 8-12.
