high lofted hybrids

OK - two rounds played. Wow. Why didn't I do that earlier? As people may know the 6th at my course is a real problem hole for me. Playing around 175 into the wind yesterday. Took the 4H onto the green for easy par. Wind changed today so downwind. Hit the 5H and in the fringe pin high. So easy to hit into greens and stop and great clubs when in trouble to give me more distance than I would have had and give me a chance to get back in play and still have chance to hit the green and make a putt. Will still do test v the irons and distance and consistency. Got the 4H for a regrip as it came slightly too thick for my girly short hands

Great to hear homer. Look forward to seeing that test.

It definitely felt weird standing around 150 yards away on the fairway with a 5H in my hand (playing into the wind a clubbing up because of the cold) but the higher flight than I'd get with an iron and the stop on the green was a real deal clincher. Had several shots from the semi-rough where I'd have gone with the 3H as the only hybrid option or a 5 wood where the lie perhaps didn't warrant these clubs but having two more hybrid options gave me more choices and a chance to still make significant progress down the hole and into position.

Think I've sown the seed in the minds of a couple of PP's over the weekend too and they'll going to consider swapping longer irons for hybrids.

Rather than start a new thread and there is a lot of good information on here.....
What Hybrids are people using....
I've got 2 Titleist ones but am going to get a set of 3 for 4,5,6 Iron replacement, as I hit them miles better than my Irons.
I'll probably go Titleist again, but all the same model, probably last years though to save a few pounds.

Still got a TM sim 3 hybrid

The pings are supposed to be very good

A Callaway Apex 26° hybrid and a Ping G25 23°

Currently mulling over whether to keep them in the bag or not. I'm not that consistent with them and I am becoming consistent with my new irons. I may lose a little distance but that is made up by the regularity of decent strikes. I definitely hit the Callaway better than the Ping so the Ping may go first. I like the Apex and it's lovely when I hit it properly. I just need to do it more often.

Cobra Baffler 19°
Ping G400 22°
I generally only use the Ping as it's more versatile for differing lies and taking a bit off. The Cobra only gives consistent results from good lies and if I absolutely batter it.

Bought a 10yr old adams 23° that I’ll get later this week
I’ve only bought it to use for 2nd shots out of the thick 1st cut where I haven’t the muscle to use a long(er) iron

I’ll probably give it a go on other shots but not expecting it to replace a fairway hit iron shot/FW or a par 3 tee shot, but it’ll be nice if it works for that too to give me more options

That 5 hybrid of mine is still in the bag from 2016.

I had an 18 degree in a couple of years ago but its been replaced by a 3 iron. I use this mostly on links and par 5s when I want to get something low and out of the wind. Occasionally off the tee.

I have one hybrid, it's a 5 iron replacement for me at 23°. Each of my long clubs (headcover clubs if you like) do a different job as well as different yardages, so I wouldn't have more than one hybrid in the bag these days. Several years ago I had three at one stage - but since then I got a 7 wood instead of the longest one, and went back to using a 6 iron instead of the shortest one.

Hybrid is a very useful and versatile tool to have - I tend to hit it out of mid-length rough just to advance the ball a decent way, and I also chip with it when I'm close to the green but in a bit of a crappy lie and don't fancy chipping with a wedge - I actually holed a chip-in with the hybrid on Saturday. Plus it's nice to have a high-flighted soft-landing shot for 175-ish yard par 3s.

Currently trying to work out my line-up between driver and irons...it's an ongoing process that consists of me thinking I've got it right but then realising that maybe I haven't....
Currently got a 16.5° 4 wood, 20° TSi1 hybrid and a 26° Apex hybrid...
The Apex is a 4 iron replacement for me even though it's the same loft as my 5 iron.. I find 7 woods too 1 dimensional..all I can do with them is hit them high and a bit left...not much use in the breezes we generally have

I've got Callaway Apex 21 3 and 4 and a Paradym 5 hybrid. I'm contemplating getting rid of the Apex 4 for something else as it goes too far at times, you get the odd low spin bullet out of the Apex ones as they have very deep faces. An example was at the weekend, 190 to a front pin into wind (it carries 200) and I flushed it 15 yards through the back, Shot Scope had the shot at 225 yards into the wind, which was 6 yards further than my low heal drive of 219 yards.

Maybe I was just hitting my hybrids well at the weekend as I did the same with the Paradym 5. After another shocking drive I had 189 to the pin off an uphill lie. Thought the 6 had no shot of getting there with the uphill lie so hit the 5 hybrid and it carried past the pin and left me a 40 yard putt back down the biggest green on the course.

Overall though, I love my hybrids. I was garbage with long irons, even my 5 iron was very inconsistent and now I'm not that worried about 200 yard shots anymore.

How do the Callaway's look at address, I like Titleist because they look pretty square at address.

Certainly for me, the modern breed of hybrid is just a ballistic missile launcher.....flattish flight, low spin and long.
Little green holding capability
That's why I've got older versions...they launch higher and hold a bit of spin so I can fire at a green.

I don't notice them at address so they must be pretty square. They aren't like some hybrids that give you the fear of off the planet left at address as soon as you put them down.

The Apex 21 have a pretty large head and deep face which also gives you a bunch of confidence if you like that kind of thing. The Paradym head is smaller and the face is a lot shallower but I wanted that in the 5 as I didn't want to deal with any low spin missiles from it.

Currently got an AiSmoke 5 hybrid....love the matt finish and it sits nice and square but it might be the victim of a bag shake up (as its 3HL equivalent has been recently) in the next few weeks.

I currently have Ping hybrids, 3 and 4 in G30 and a 5 in G410. The 4 and 5 currently in the bag. Seeing if I can without the 3 as 13 clubs fit much better in the bag now I'm carrying again and my fairway wood is a 5 wood so not a massive gap from 5 wood to 4 hybrid.

The 5 in particular is a cheat stick, so SO easy to hit, I get plenty of height and it spins enough to easily hold greens for me.

Ping G425 19 degree
Ping G425 26 degree
Callaway Rogue ST Hybrid - MAX OS 30 degree
Callaway Rogue ST Hybrid - MAX OS 33 degree
Eleven 9 hybrid 39 degree

I love them!

I have Ping #6+7 hybrids. They land at around 130 and 138 or about (winter yardage).....so not a long iron replacement. Well, actually....with how short I'm getting these days maybe they are. If I need something that lands at 140 or more I'll pull out a fairway wood (5/7/9 wood). During the winter where the ball lands is where it ends up.....we are now approaching the "rolling days" and warmer weather so adjustments are in progress. I don't expect to get anything further than 140-145 total with the 6 hybrid during the mud months....but once things dry out a bit more I could end up with at least 160. I only expect 170 (180 at the most) from my 5 wood during the winter, but I hit one close to 200 yesterday with a bit of roll.
