I had better take my Burner 2.0 irons back then as being a 24 HCP i'm not entitled to use them am I!!! What a ridiculous post you have submitted mate.
i hope the clubs help you and bring your h/c down and that your taking lessons but i must comment on why you think anyone is interested in your list of clubs and what type of bag you have,is it to show you have the latest gear and therefore are a better golfer??

my point in a nutshell everyone has been taken by the hype,is a ping g10 driver no good anymore or last years all singing and dancing irons useless the answer is no so why are people new to the game hell bent on not learning to play with this type of club instead of thinking they have to have the latest and in some cases a club not suited for them in the long term.
I'm off to the range to hit a rocketballz - not in the market for any fancy clubs - just know someone who has one and its ruining her game ;)

FOR SALE

all my golf clubs which i saved for and designed for players of my ability.

will happily swap for set of dunlops though also i will give my trolley to someone in exchange for a post mans bag trolley as clearly i shouldnt be using any of this gear!

last few days really seen some handicap snobbery kicking around here.
I dont go to the pub as saving for the wedding, golf is my only hobby and i also have lessons so people cant just say i rely on my clubs. I brought them after research and advice.

I'll spend my hard earned cash on what I like, thanks.

Yes, there's lot's of hype and marketing around new clubs. But how is that different to any other product out there?! Do you expect the likes of TM, Ping, Callaway etc to not market their brands? And how do you know that said high-handicappers aren't also paying for lessons?

Let people spend their money on whatever they wish. If it makes them happy and feel better, then the price is worth it. Your sweeping generalisation has irked me. But each to their own!

It's not just high handicappers that suffer from the new shiny gear will make me better theory, there's lots of people like this.

To be honest I don't care what other people use as long as I'm happy with my bag of sticks and they work for me.

Absolute rubbish! Big Bertha's, Ping G series and the like are called "Game improvement Irons" they are designed to be easier to hit for the mid to high handicappers. I'm the opposite, I don't really understand why someone serious about taking up golf would want to go and buy a cheap set of clubs from Sports Direct.

Thats what i did because i didnt know any better and went for the cheap option but it has cost more in the long run.
wish i had found this site sooner.

Interesting comments on snobbery here.

Someone considers a person who comments on a high handicapper buying expensive equipment a snob.

Another person who is a high handicapper says that people should only buy expensive equipment without thinking that perhaps other players may not be able to afford them.

Which one is the greater snob?

It would be a foolish club manufacturer who advetised a range of expensive clubs aimed specifically at high handicappers. No one would buy them no matter how great they were.

When I started I bought second hand Ping Eye2+, a second hand TM putter and a Dunlop wedge.

When I got to the point where I could hit the ball I upgraded to a second hand Cobra 3W, easier to hit putter, second hand wedges and a new MD driver and current irons as below.

I'm now consistently hitting around my handicap and below and hope to get a good cut over the course of the year if my early season form is anything to go by so recently upgraded my driver and 3W.

I think I've handled the hype of clubs and treating myself to something I want aspect of it all quite well, never buying the absolute top gear and staying within my ability while allowing scope to improve.

I'm not a high earner so some things are a bit of a reach for me but golf is more than a hobby, it's something I seriously want to improve at so why not invest in it?

If you can afford it and it'll help you get where you want, then spend it imo.

my original post was to see if people perceptions of snobbery differed,it seems that if your a high h/c player and have the latest gear i am the snob for suggesting that you should learn to play before spending a fortune on clubs and who is to say that the clubs you buy now for £1000+ are going to be any good for you as you improve when you play more? i never said buy cheap clubs i said buy a good make to start with but not the latest model what is the problem if not to boost your egos buying the latest gear? to be honest i couldn't really care less what anyone spends their money on its your money do what you like with it,but i have noticed that the list of clubs after everyones profiles is getting longer as i have said on another post who is it aimed at,is it to tell the world i have the latest gear so i'm a good player or i have more money than you or my h/c is 24.5 but i have a r11

im not saying anyone should buy anything. my view is people buy what they want. And why should it bother someone else if someone has a dunlop or a ping in there bag? if the golfert who is playing is happy then why should anyone else be affected

anyway i started out with £100 dunlops and in hindsight i wish i never bothered, but i still kept the wedge haha

Golf is a lot more affordable these days and people play for different reasons! Some just municiples, societies, some just go the range, right up to the 3/4,times a week ' more serious ' club member. People should be able to wear (as long as it meets course/club requirements) what brands they want, or use whatever clubs or balls they want. Some players examine equipment carefully and get what best suites their game and some borrow the old set that their dad has had in their garage for years. As long as the guys I play with are good company and have a pint after, then am happy.....

why not go for the top gear. if it doesnt feel right or no better than your old club its always easy to sell on. buying cheap clubs and just slightly upgrading each time means you end up with a garage full of old clubs no one wants.

If you can afford it - fill yer boots.
If you can't you can still find decent equipment at a reasonable cost.
I would always advise to buy the best you can afford.
Don't really understand all the "snob" bits - maybe I didn't read them fully.
But either way, I think quality clubs will help you play better, whatever your level.

I am a crap golfer but only when I'm playing. I have pimp golf clubs and they are pimp when I am playing and they are pimp when I am not.

It's my hobby, money spent on golf is fun money.

With out doubt I have a problem. My name is Alex and I can't stop buying golf clubs.
