He's back..... Again!

The viewing figures will go up - people who only watch Woods will tune , people who want to see him struggle will watch and then once that's over with the tournament will move on and golf will move on.

As per norm the telly coverage will all be about him and focused on him regardless of how he or anyone else is doing.

Hope he doesn't do himself damage but I also hope once all the initial reaction dies down the game again can focus on all the golfers out there

I just hope that he doesnt do anything silly and wreck himself for good, or play like a muppet and end up way down the list.

He wont be happy just playing, he has to be contending or its not going to work for him.
far better to go out on top than crash and burn or fade away into obscurity

Surely no one is that sad or pathetic they would only watch in the hope he fails especially as is already stated he will increase interest in our struggling sport.

Well that took longer than I thought it would :D

Struggling ?

I don't believe golf is struggling right now

Woods coming back will increase viewing figures but don't see that increasing participation in the sport though so the effect on the game will be minimal beyond telly figures

And yes people will want to see a bit of car crash golf from him

Same as people rubber Necki g at crash sites.

Of of course some will hope he fails.
Same as some will watch it with intrigue. Not everyone that likes Woods is some besotted fan as they are at times pictured. The guy took the sport to a new level in pretty much every aspect. And until he retires he will still be the biggest draw.

Will be interesting viewing this week and of course it'll be saturation coverage. Woods is still a big draw. I hope his body is ready and that his game is in far better shape than last time he tried to come back. It would be good to see him come back and be competitive, but I maintain that he'll never win another major.

Sorry my mistake courses closing all over the place, it's going well.

Really looking forward to it. I don't care how it shakes out, just looking forward to seeing him with a club in his hand.

The statistics suggest that while Tiger's involvement is undoubtedly beneficial to the TV ratings and, thus, prize money etc; it has not had any significant effect upon player participation levels.

It is similar to the BBC v Sky argument. Numbers playing the game were falling when BBC had full coverage of The Open, Ryder Cup and The Masters.

Golf is a minority sport competing with other minority sports and Tiger's return, welcome though it is, is unlikely to increase the number playing in the future.

Not a Tiger fan by any means and dont think he will win another major or anything od note for that matter (maybe a run of the mill PGA event at some point), the game has moved on in his absence and the quality of opposition has risen dramatically in the last two years that I think he will struggle to make an impact.
That said, I wish him well and hope he can just enjoy the game and be happy with that, he has made his career and his legacy in the game amongst the greats it would be sad to see him and that legacy fade away and left with memories of injury, scandal and poor results.
There are too many people (not necessarily on here) that want to see him pick up another injury or to see him fail, and thats just not right for golf, for golfers or just for humans in general IMO.

I really want to see Tiger back in form. I do. Still, I can't shake the feeling that this appearance is more a business move than a true attempt at a comeback. I am sure that there are contracts with his sponsors that require him to play at least one official event this season.

Still, I am looking forward to seeing him play and I hope he is truly ready for it.

Are you being serious.....??

Golf is in huge decline
Membership numbers are falling year on year
Never seen/heard of a period in time prior to the last 5yrs that's had more course closures

Articles in all golf mags back all this up

Very strange statement you make there

Plenty more articles out there that show that golf is not in huge decline

Whilst it's not at the same number as before the financial crisis it has stabilised and also there have been increases in participation over the past year and clubs closing has slowed down to a near stop.

And all this whilst the BBC don't show any golf 😉

Can't be ass d to click on your copy/paste links
But can assure you in the north east of England, golf is in decline

There's a few clubs I know of that can't even field a junior team, have withdrawn from the junior leagues, such is the lack of youngsters coming through
