This is so simple it is untrue! I play off 12 and am having trouble putting from 3 feet or less.

I am lifting my head, peeping, and therefore pulling the shot to the left. I know what I am doing and know my head should be still and follow through and listen etc.

Any thoughts on what I should do to keep the head still please?

Go on YouTube and search for Scott cranfields putting drills. He has one that relies on feel. What he makes you do is putt from 10ft roughly and not follow the ball with the eyes. You have to keep looking down and ask yourself from feel whether you think it was short/long/left/right etc etc.

It works a treat for me. Good with chips around the green too. It's all about the feel!! :)

Cheers lost the plot.

One guy suggested I should bite the button on my golf shirt to keep the head still . I will try anything except a neck brace!

I leave a gap between putter and ball and focus on the grass inbetween.

If I focus on the ball my head tries to anticipate the ball moving away and moves with it.

I struggle with this problem and I'm in the process of teaching myself to stare at the ball, strike it and then count to three before looking for it.

It's working for me as my putting has improved markedly.

I would guess that you're not the most confident putter. I'd say that you worry about missing the little putts so much that you're scared to hit them. Therefore, when you do hit one, you're looking to see where it's gone - hence the head lift. I've decided (with the use of the above technique) that I'm not going to worry about missing them - I'm going to concentrate on a nice, solid stroke, and I'll stare at the ball/ground. If the ball then goes in, excellent. If it misses then so be it.

By lifting my head I was missing them anyway so I'm not losing anything.

On the practice green, stick a penny under the ball. Play the shot and keep looking at the penny....simples.
(Leadbetter or Faldo suggestion....can't remember)
It also encourages you to hover the putter and not graze the turf.

If you have hair, get a mate to grab you buy it when practising your putting. If you move you’re going to be in for a painful surprise. It’s what my old coach use to do for me and it hurt like hell. Picture it when on course and you aren’t going to move your head, trust me.

Lots of good advice on how to keep your head still but.....
I don't think moving your head is causing you to miss the putt left.
If you take your putting address position then keeping your body still, move your head. It's easy.
I would guess it's your lower half (hips and legs) are turning to the left which brings your head up and your shoulders left of the hole pulling the putt.
Try hitting some practice putts with a good friend standing behind you holding your waist firmly so you cant move it.
This will keep your shoulders more on line and therefor your putter.
HTH :)

I was thinking about this myself yesterday after reading an article somewhere about not looking up till the ball stops or counting to three. Obviously you would want to keep your head still for the takeaway backswing and impact through the ball, but once the ball has left the putter and is rolling, surely moving your head or any other part won't make any difference to where the ball will go. Isn't it best to concentrate on making a steady swing moving nothing but arms and shoulders until after impact and if your doing this consinstantly and missing most your putts in the same fashion then make adjustments to suit until your holing more putts.
