Hello all,

My first post so apologies for seeking advice from everyone immediately!

I have a new R11 but feel I have made a mistake with having a stiff shaft (I know I should have been fitted but was a really good deal). Am now thinking I might buy a regular flex shaft to up my launch angle as I barely get the ball up with the current setup!

Just wondered what people would recommend as a decent shaft with a high launch.

Cheers,

Doug

Can u try a regular at your nearest pro shop?

Where are. You based? I bought a reg r11 and feel I now need a stiff! Lol

Stiff shafts fit players with a strong swing well, those with decent technique and find the middle of the face fairly well.

Im 27, I started off with a regular shaft when I joined a club in 2010, got a 17 handicap pretty quickly. After a summer of lessons I had already outgrown it and I was playing off 15.

If you are around that standard and strength as well as improving your swing you will "grow" into it. If you are not then you will be right to change. My advice get some lessons, then if you still wish to change, go and try out the same club with the different shaft and compare.

Lessons first as they cannot hurt, unless stiff is REALLY wrong for you if have a high handicap or can only swing with moderate strength.

hi, am based in Sussex part time and Cumbria part time (Long Story!)! I have looked at the stock regular specs and they seem almost identical to the stiff specs! Was thinking I might go for a aftermarket upgrade.

Cheers

I did that on my G15, I had a regular and got custom fitted for a stiff shaft, 1 inch shorter than stock. It has a whippy tip and results in a nice rolling draw when swung well.

I suggest doing it properly and booking a fitting session if you do decide but lessons first cannot help, you can ask your pro his advice then too!

I have a reasonable swing i think! Have regular lessons already and handicap aim for this year is to break into single figures (fingers crossed and weather permitting). Am definitely a timing player rather than brute force so feel that a regular would suit better with my swing speed at about 95. Local pro is great advocate of shorter shafts with more flex. Already cut shaft by 1 inch and that helped with dispersion!

Depends on a variety of factors, but 95mph wouldn't be obviously out of keeping with a stiff in anon-TP R11. Tempo, swing path and feel also matter, though.

Good news is that you can buy and sell the shafts on ebay, keep the head, so if you demo something you like or get a fitting on a launch monitor, it shouldn't be too expensive to swap the shaft.

Following is a (relatively old) table that might be of help.

Fubiki seems to be a popular, relatively cheap High Launch option.

Advantage of the R11 set up is that you can change/try alternative shafts relatively cheaply, though shortening them can increase costs/reduce options.
