So the majority of famous pro golfers seem to be healthy to a good age, despite many being pretty overweight. I couldnt think of many pros bar Azinger, Seve and Bobby Jones who were seriously poorly until getting to their old age.

Any others? Also do you feel golf has been good for your health?

Majority of pro golfers have the money to look after themselves, if something goes wrong its sorted in a matter of days unless really serious.=== Most mortals at the mercy of the NHS wait a little longer .=== Golf is good for you out in the open ,swishing your clubs trying not to get stressed .We have an 83 yr old of 12 h/cap who shoots/ betters his age regularly.

Yeah but its just weird that there are so many pro golfers and there is hardly any serious cases of strokes/cancer etc. Money cant prevent everything.

The Tour players aren't really in the demographic group for cancer or stroke. But there are a few cases. Azinger, Jarrod Lyle. It is more likely that Tour players play golf because they are healthy rather than are healthy because they okay golf.

I was talking about this to a friend the other day and I truly believe that golf is good for keeping you young and active.
Yes I know a lot of golfers who have had illnesses (myself included), but I also know a lot of golfers who are in their eighties and are doing very well.
Working in the care/health industry I see a lot of people in their 60s and 70s who are not doing as well as these guys and gals. so yes there is something to be said for keeping your mind and body active as long as you are able.

My dad is 77 and plays three times a week, the auld fellas he plays with are in their 80 with one being closer to 90 and while they may no longer be long, they are straight and consistent and damn good putters. So I would say golf does have its physical health benefits.

gives hope for us all.

It gives you something to look forward to, which can help. Nothing worse than moping around wishing there was something to do.

I would imagine that a few of the tour pro's have suffered from skin cancer (or will) but have just never published the fact to the rest of the world.

Kevin Stadler and a few other fatties won't fall into this category. Seriously overweight which will damage their health unless they cut out the buffets :mmm:

Well his old man seems okay just now, must be in his 60s. He made a fortune selling those pencils though.

I do love pineapple and cheese on a stick.

i'm not sure how much it does fitness wise for the under 60's, but i think it has huge benefits for those who are older and retired. gets them out the house, something to look forward to, a sense of community etc.

my in laws do nothing and are 60's going on mid 80's. in that age group (particularly after retirement) mental well being is a good part of the battle

My old Dad is 85 next month, he walks his course 3 times a week all year round weather permitting. I hope I make it to 85 let alone be able to walk that far!
