Hello,
do you maintain and use a distance sheet with all your distances with each of your clubs ?

How did you created it ?

Any best practice ?

thanks.

no real point making one until the summer id say. you should know you average for each club if you play regularly.

I spent a full round last year when I got new clubs checking the distances. In summer (with a good strike of course) am almost spot on 150 yards with my 8i. This is approx 145 yards carry and 5 yards roll but will depend on the green etc. Longer / shorter irons are approx 10 yards either side of that and I work it out from each

Currently averaging 1 extra club to hit the same distance due to colder weather and lack of roll.

all very well but what do you do when the wind is behind you, your 160yards out but have to play over a hill to a blind green which is down the other side. this throws these books out the window.

You need a base point to work from, then factor in wind direction, temperature, elevation changes etc etc, then you pull the right club out of the bag, practice routine, step up to the ball, pull the trigger and fat it 50 yards

haha spot on. had that shot today and took a 7 iron. drew lovely towards the flag. when i got down it was 20yards out the back. aw well :one:

No table jUst have fixed distances for a few clubs and then work between them distances taking into account temp, wind and ground conditions and if there are any low flying aircraft, weather baloons, manned or unmanned space rockets, satellites, unidentified flying objects

Fixed it further Scott!

I just went up to a course with a long straight par 4 in summer when there was very little wind. I hit 10 balls (well) with each club and chose the middle 5. Used my Bushnell V2 to measure the distance back to mmy bag and averaged it out. Don't do this at a driving range as the balls are crap and don't go as far as your normal balls. You must have a very good idea of how far you hit your clubs to make a good club choice on a hole. As previously mentioned you still have to factor in slope, wind, temparature and lie. Get it done and I promise you will see an improvement

Mine is an excel spreadsheet I have on my pc, it lists the flat calm yardage for full, 3/4 and half shots for everything from a 7 iron downwards. I have picked only a few, so I get even yardarges with a full flight for all yards up to 140.

Now I know when I am within 140 yards I know the exact club for any distance in 10 yard intervals :) if I need to take 5 off I grip down a bit.

That way I only need remember about 7 shots in addition to the rest of my clubs.

I disagree, range balls fly the same as normal balls up to about 140/150 yards. Its only with the longer clubs they don't fly as far. I set all my yardages on the range and they held true on the course.

Very important to remember that carry is the vital distance.
Carry - you can control
Roll - you can't

If you're going to work out your distances you need to know where the ball is pitching. Knowing your 8 iron, for instance, goes 145 in the air is fine but how can you be even remotely sure that when it bounces it's going to go another 5 yards, 10 yards or whatever?

Interesting pre shot routine you have there SB...... Arrive at ball, fire up laptop..... Lol

I did say I REMEMBER just 7 aditional shots, so I know my full shots for all clubs then for my 56, 52, pw, 9, 8 and 7 I know my yardages for 3/4 and half shots too. From those I picked the ones that flew closest to full shots for each distance from 40 yards to 140 where a full shot did not cover it. its only about 7 additional shots to remember,

Interesting ScienceBoy, question for you is whether you find that your gaps are even between your clubs? Specifically when you change from your irons over to your wedges?
