Just hit my Pw over 180 yds - should I get new irons? 😂

In all seriousness, how do you adjust for such level of bouncy fairways/hard greens? Any high shot is a risk of a big bounce. Do you use it only knock down /flighted shots on approaches?

To be fair, our greens are not so bad, sure they are firm and sometimes not easy to hold...especially being small, but other than dropping the ball in just short of the green (where you can) there isnt any real special tactic needed to cope.

Fairways...its just a matter of allowing for a bit more roll and taking a little less club.

Even then, in either scenario, there will always be times when you find a dead patch and the ball stops near instantly, making you look a bit of an idiot.

Don’t waste money on Pro V1’s , learn the fade … or just work on the short game because playing is pointless..
I just collect driver and 5wood stats so I look like a big boy 🤣😎

Driver stays in the bag unless I’m playing a long par 4 back into the wind, otherwise it’s 3 or 5 wood, or 2-iron from the tee.

Our greens are holding quite well so still no real drama hitting mid to short irons in. It’s the longer approaches where a bit of thought is needed. I invariably take a couple of clubs less than I normally would and if the ball rolls out and onto the green great, if not then I’ve a chance to get up and down.

Regardless, mid summer with baked fairways is a lot easier than mid winter, when the greens are solid.

What would the carry be on the 180 ? I hit my irons high, been working hard on 100 ft apex on all clubs so very little roll out and pw/9 and even a lot of 8 irons I get a fair bit of backspin.

Pw 44* - 125yds avg carry - 7,266 avg spin - 30yds peak - 49* decent angle

It was an extreme example, the ball took the first bounce of about 10yds high 😂

I feel that high shots have less of a chance as they bounce harder than a lower trajectory shot.

I get the opposite. I play my shots higher so it lands softer and I can regularly hit my number, if I hit my irons low I find it’s so hard to control the distance some shots might stop after a few yards others might roll out 20 yards and I’m off the green.

I love the additional yards a bouncy fairway gives me.

Hit the fairway off the tee and with a good roll, the next shot should be to the green, which hold much better.

The odd rogue bounce is acceptable.

Love it, love it, love it. I play a parkland course but you have to hit approach shots as though it's a links. Make sure you hit fairways, distance in the air isn't as critical as you gain with the run.

I've been spoilt this year, I'll miss it when courses return to normal.

The issue with baked fairways on parkland courses is the green complex’s aren’t normally set up for shots that are running in
You definitely have to set up so that you are on the right side of the fairway for your approach. There will usually be an entrance somewhere, you just need to plot your way a little more than usual.

I agree, it won't be a links type entrance but it usually isn't entirely out of the question.

Conversely, it’s not unusual for links courses to have features preventing running shots at least on some holes. Can name a few at Brancaster/Hunstanton.
