Have Ping fallen behind in woods?

Agreed on the terrible noise that the g30 makes. Given that they can tune thus sort of thing, what were they thinking of??

Currently own a cobra fly-z, sounds really nice, so whatever they used to do wrong, they don't any more...

Fallen behind? Please back up your suggested argument with tested evidence. I reckon you'll not see much difference except in looks, feel and sound.

Please reread my first post, particularly the closing remark!

It's amazing how emotive a title can be, in fact I just wanted to get people's honest opinions on how they stack up and as usual those opinions vary wildly. Some people take it as a personal affront, like I've insulted their loved ones. I'll reiterate, I've loved my Ping G15 since being fit for it at Gainsborough Ping in 2011, I've never bought another driver. 6 years on I'm wondering if the tech is worth investigating and rather than just going to Gainsborough again I thought I'd hear what people thought. I never knew about the awful noise the G30 makes, among plenty else I've learned on the thread.

As per my first post, I realise finding the right the shaft is very important, after that what difference do heads make and are these latest offerings really better? Opinions, as ever, are divided, but some folks have come here with evidence and I've learnt quite a bit from it.

Most drivers now have all the bells and whistles in one head .
ping have been mor or less traditional with three types of head the LS / SF tech and the standard head the shaft is the most important bit of the driver so you must fit the head to the shaft for your swing.
I don't think they are behind just not as desperate to sell their technology as some other OEM.
its a personal thing at the end of the day your driver has to perform and look good to you .

I remember Ping bringing out the first jumbo headed driver with the ISI,it looked huge compared to the competition back then and Ping seemed to lead the way, personally I dont the Ping have brought out a decent driver since the G10 which was years ago.

My last five drivers have been

g10
g20
g30
TM Aeroburner
TM M2

Was custom fitted for the Ping at Gainsboro.

Hit Aeroburner further than G30 but could over draw it sometimes so probably less forgiving than G30.

M2 I hit further than Aeroburner and more forgiving. The only thing I don't like about it is I only seems to be able to hit straight shots with it or a tiny draw as if it has some sort of anti draw technology (can hit a draw with the M2 3 wood no problem and same with previous drivers). It is taking some getting used to aiming at middle of fairways and not the right side.

Yes, TM have annoying product cycle and cringeworthy names like Rocketballz and Lethal etc but not trying their products on this basis is a bit silly really.

It would take a lot to get me to go back to a Ping Driver now so in answer to the OP question, my own experience says yes they have.

Rubbish. The G25 and G were/are very popular and so they must be decent enough for the majority of club golfers or they wouldn't use them. What makes you think none have been decent?

ping drivers always used to have very good aftermarket shafts in, only ever see their own stock shafts in now. That must put some off?

Put me off

M2 oldwith aldila rogue silver

i would have to be blown away by custom fit data to change

though im bias due to wieghts falling out of my i25 irons all over the place

No major manufacturers have 'fallen behind'. They are all within tiny margins of each other even for the pros. Driver head technology has been at the legal limits for ages and shafts are what will make the difference. Think when golfspy did their annual driver test there was about 3 yards difference in total carry across about 12 drivers. How many of us are good enough that a yard or two on a drive would change our scores?

Did you go back to Ping about your problem with your irons? I understood Ping had one of the best customer services for clubs, it was one of the reasons I bought Pings.

Bought a second hand G30 from American Golf on sunday, had a small crack on it and just took it back in today. They sending it back to ping to get a new head put on it. He said Ping have the best customer service out of them all. He said they may even just send a whole new club depending on what they have in their warehouse.

Because the competition has been better for a long time simple as that......

In what way is the competition better? In the big mygolfspy drivers test the G is only marginally behind the M2 on distance, with a better dispertion than the M2. Its distance is better than the Nike, Titleist and Callaway dbd drivers tested.

If you take away all the marketing nonsense, most recent drivers perform very similarly.

I think Ping just bolted a little early, some of there drivers over the last couple of years have been amazing, just been a big push on releases from other manufacturers recently. Ping will have an ace up their sleeve.

In what way? Are others that far ahead in terms of distance and forgiveness. I would say no. What is your criteria for the others being better

In a word "shafts" Ping used to use very good shafts but stopped doing this and use there own nowdays, shafts make a club, they may suit some people though.

There is always an option of a custom fit. Plenty of Ping fitters out there that can do this and doesn't have to be a mega expensive option. Conversely I've found the TM shafts poor (for my ability) and seen huge differences between two so called R flexes
