Have Ping fallen behind in woods?

They whack in two thin metal castings and call it jailbreak technology...what are they thinking? I know some brands use odd naming conventions but this whole Epic/jailbreak thing stinks of desperation.

The aim of most manufacturers now is to make one driver that will suit all players
But once it's set for you all the technology is redundant until you sell it.
this shows in the pricing of the new drivers it's going up again.
if you have a driver with draw / fade balance and all the other bells and whistles you can get .
If you have them all on neutral because you are a good player then the price is going to put you off.

There is an argument that a good player can actually make use of the draw/fade balance as he has a consistent strike, so can adjust to suit. For most of us it makes not a jot of difference as your strike far out-ways the sliders by a country mile. All the draw/fade bias in the world is not going to bring back a poor strike.

There is nothing wrong with Ping's current driver, other than the noise it makes. Plenty long, extremely forgiving and no more ugly than what Callaway/Taylormade pump out.

One of my PP's has a G30. I stick my fingers in my ears when he hits it..........Dreadful sound!

my main point was a good player will fade or draw the ball with his hands / swing path .
if you have a driver with say a draw bias set up then you are going to struggle hitting a fade when required.
all the sliders are not required if you can shape the ball yourself.
I have a Callaway XR driver and am pretty straight with it I would not give up accuracy for 5 yds length.

Ping G driver is the best I've had since the Titleist 983k and Taylormade R7 Superquad TP.

Looks great, flies great, I can shape it both ways. Little adjustability to confuse matters and its forgiving when required.

Plus I actually like the noise.

In a word NO. They offer a forgiving and functional range of drivers with the G in my opinion being one of the best out there, without the need for bells and whistles. I'm not actually a fan of too much adjustment technology as a serial tinkerer, and to be honest once you've found the optimum settings, and paid through the nose for all the adjustability, how often will you change after that. I'm quite happy with the ability to adjust +/- by a degree or so

Love Ping clubs. I have the G30 sf tec driver and love it, just picked up the ls tec today as was giving me better numbers. Having tried the m1, xr16 and the 915 the G30 is still up there and much longer than 915. The M1 gave me about 10 yards further than my sf tec but tonight the ls tec blew even that out of the water.

Just because they aren't heaped with adjustability doesn't mean its not got all the new tech.

TM, Callaway, Ping, PXG whatever.

Team the head with the correct shaft to produce the optimal numbers then that's a winner regardless of who manufactured it. Heads are at their legal limits. Finding the shaft—head combo is key

No, TM and Callaway are just the best at creating hype. Was a master stroke getting the Nike boys to switch to M2's and if you think that was not influenced by $'s you are deluded.

Performance wise no, they aren't as brash marketing wise as Callaway and TM are though.

I really like Ping gear, loved my G25 driver and got a G30 but the sound made me get rid of it!!

I love the look of the I-Blade irons, not looking just now but if I was they'd be at the top of my list.

From what I see week to week on the course, I would say no. The G30 was an incredibly successful driver in both performance and sales.

The high product turnover cycle of taylormade makes it hard for me to take them seriously but the M2 does seem to be a real contender for many handicap golfers.

I see many people with old Ping gear because it works, but not many with old TM.

I had a G30, loved it. Never noticed the noise but god damm the G makes some noise. Its like the Old King Cobra's, totally dull frying pan sound.

Yes, that's exactly how the new G sounds
Just like the old Cobras , horrific

I've just switched back 2 generations, to the G25

I will never own a cobra driver after hearing 'that noise'. Truly horrific. Sends shivers down my spine when I hear it every now and again when on the course.
