Hate Driver - Should i go Mini?

Yes stock shafts as far as I am aware.

Makes more sense, as the stock shaft in the 3Deep is the Px Velocity which for me at least is a far better shaft than the stock Speeder shaft in the SLDR mini, however the SLDR improves greatly with an upgrade to the Black Tie shaft

Thanks, good to know.

No pressure to hit the driver. Sod what your mates do you hit your distance, no more no less. It's a club to enjoy. Just relax and watch it fly.

Of course buddy I just feel its added pressure when people get the driver out

What do people think here?
When you get the driver out do you feel the added pressures of using it?
Wanting to hit it hard wanting to hit yours furthers then your friends, the little added pressures of using it

No pressure, much better to be twenty or so yards back and on the short stuff.

I play with a few guys who nearly always knock it past me with the driver, then watch as I put a 7 iron on the green and they put a 9 iron into the bunker from the rough

You don't say what the bad shot is. How long have you been hitting it poorly. If its a passing phase and you are normally a decent driver I'd save my money and work through it. At the end of the day a £30 lesson is a load cheaper than a new club. It isn't the driver causing the problems

I've just got my Pro to put one aside for me.

Have hit one at the driving range but it was difficult to get a good feel for distance as the range is on an incline. hopefully get up to the club during the week, get it taped up and have a hit with it out on the course.

Played in an open today and used my hybrid on all but two of the holes as it is just so unpredictable. Just can't get any consistency with the big stick. It either flies up the middle or swings wildly to the right. The lottery off the tee is really killing my scores.

My heads telling me to get a mini in the bag and get hitting fairways, building confidence with a view to getting a new driver back in the bag.

I have days when I want to throw the driver in the bin and get a Mini/3deep.....

Then I start striping the driver again so the thought goes on the back burner again...

After tomorrow I'll probably be checking eBay again....

^^^^^This is me!!!

Spoke to the Pro about getting one in on Friday. Wanders off to the first tee and creamed it up the middle, so much so that I contemplated shouting back and telling him to sack the order. Sent it spinning right off the second tee though.

My trouble is the top end of my bag is sparse. Never really had a 3 wood in there that I felt comfortable with. So like today when I lost the faith I was going for the 21* hybrid which I can get around 200 yards out of it so wasn't too bad.

So the mini would fill a gap and hopefully build some of the confidence into my tee shots.

Just try a driver with more loft. It's probably the loft of the 3 wood that is helping you out. Maybe a 13 or 14 degree. There are more drivers out there than the current TM Slider range.
:D

Coatsy's got an original Rapture 3 wood - 14 degrees and a pretty solid club.

Had a waft with the new Rapture in AG the other day - had a floppy shaft in it so no good hitting it but it looked and felt the business....

Just not at £275!!!!!!

Hey all played Saturday and knew right away that it wasn't gonna be a good driving day, Couldn't hit the middle of the club at all, Bailed on the driver after 5 hole and used my 3 wood and did really well hit most fairways with good distances.

Played Sunday with the feeling in my head that yesterday was just one of those days and today would be better.
You guessed it, it wasn't better same problem couldn't find the middle and again bailed on the driver after 5 holes, so again went to the 3 wood and did pretty well most fairways with good distances.

The Mini is a easy to hit 3 wood, Should i bail on my driver permanently and use the mini?

Cheers
Think you have talked yourself into getting the mini, but if the 3 wood was going as well as you say, i would save my money, keep the driver, and spend it on a lesson or 2.

If you replace the driver with the mini, surely the pressure just moves down the bag to the next longest club?

Or am I missing something?

I thought the Ping version was about £300 ?

Yeah sorry I mean the old one, I keep forgetting there's a new one out

I was struggling with the driver and was considering a strong 3 wood to use off the tee as I hit a good 3 wood off the deck. However I've come to realise that it's all about TECHNIQUE with the driver, this is the most important thing.
Firstly it's the only shot where the ball is sitting up high off the ground, it's teed up high. So this in itself presents a different image as the ball is in the air.
As you may know the driver is the only club you hit on the up swing, my problem was that I was not tilting enough away from the target. So now I have the sensation that I'm really leaning back on my right leg at address so I'm leaning away from the ball, and this position is kept there through the swing but importantly I ensure that I transfer my weight through the swing. I ensure that my spine angle is maintained at this angle and I swing right around it.
With a 3 wood even if you do move your spine slightly forward on the downswing you'll get away with it as you're aiming to sweep the ball off the surface and the ball is not sitting off the ground like a driver. If you do this with a driver you'll hit down on the ball which will balloon the ball.
The other issue I had with the driver was not staying down on the ball and maintaining my spine angle, ie bent over, I would stand up which would then lead to massive ballooning of the ball as I would come down too steeply as by standing up this narrows my swing and makes the angle of attack steeper.
Another issue to consider is that the length of the shaft is longer with the driver compared to 3 wood which can make it difficult to control so you could choke down on the shaft a couple of inches.
However I imagine the biggest issue is technique. Get that spine really titled away from the target so that you feel more weight on your right leg as though you could spring off your right foot at address.
