Over the last 6 weeks my handicap has come dowm from 12.2 to 9.8,i have won two comps, had two seconds and a third.Ive had two rounds with an eagle and four birdies in each, and i believe its all down to the practice ive put in on my short game.Has anyone else hit a purple patch, and can you put your finger on why its happened.

Haven't hit a purple patch since the early part of the season and don't foresee that changing in the cold conditions we have now. The way I am looking at it, the work I do over ther winter in terms of swing changes and short game practice is money in the bank for a fast start next year.

I actually found that by playing more holes in the evenings as opposed to tying myself to the practice ground and putting green, that I've enjoyed my golf more this year and even when things haven't been going well (most of the time from August on) it hasn't seemed to matter as much

I find if I work on something it generally gets better. The problem is I only have so much practice time per week, in winter the time is even more limited.

If only I could do golf all day every day (with some time spare for other duties ;) )

Great work mate. As I said @ Beau, I was well impressed with your putting particularly your holing out from 8-10ft and in.

I do think you need to look at the long clubs, especially the driver and fix that falling away off the ball which is giving you a glancing swipe at it. If you get that sorted and start getting the ball well out there in play you'll be laughing. :D

Well done mate. I could defo see a single figure golfer in you at Beau Desert. Have you been hitting driver more or sticking to your 3 wood ?

To answer yr question I didn't work all that hard this year, but hoping to finish the season on 13.7. I started on 16.4, so its not all bad. I say hoping as the competition i won on Nov 6 apparently wasn't handicap qualifying (even though it was played on a full course.) as the winter season had started. I've asked he handicap committee to consider the card so it should be ok.

your dead right there mate,im better but its still happening at times,i think im going to have to succumb and get a lesson. :D

Im kind of in a purple patch at the moment....
Im sorting out issues with my swing at the moment which in some cases are positive but its still a work in progress...

Iv had good consistency with the stableford points im bringing in since the swing change...Last 4 rounds have been 35,33,33,34 and i know that the new swing is definately helping....

I have the rest of the winter to sort it out and im patient enough for it to take effect so come the summer next year ill be out all guns blazing

But all in all im happy with my progress for the moment.

went from 15.5-11.4 in the space of 7 medals, getting cut in each one and culminating with winning one of our major trophies.. put it down to a lot of concentration, the nike one tour golf balls that i acquired around the same time and going through a routine before playing each shot.

I've reaped the rewards relevant to the level of practice I've put in.

Started on 11, finished on 11.

The best round I had, for some reason my chipping was on a different level to usual, everything else seemed about the same, so I know where the practice needs to be done if I can motivate myself to do it.

Glad to hear you're getting the rewards for your efforts.

Congratulations on the results.

I was hoping to get down to 25 this year but stuck on 27 - just need to stop blowing up on the critical 2 holes (randomly distributed through the round) that take me from 40 points and a cut back to 36 and sticking where I am.

I've been pleased with getting some of the mental side under control and taking each shot as it comes, generally better consistency on ball striking, but still struggling to put on distance (drives not much more than 220 and 7 iron carry 130), which means that longer holes are definitely 1 putts to get par and the shot from 120 in is critical to that.

Still plenty to work on!

Well done PJ
I'm in a bit of a purple patch at the moment that has lasted since September. I shot 12 consecutive rounds in the 70's, beating or matching my handicap every time. Came down 8.2 in the process. Had a couple of weeks when it all went to ratsh&t but I'm putting that down to a heavy cold that threw my balance/timing off. Seem to be back to good scoring again now although I've had to miss the last 2 comps of the year due to work. Very little in the way of practice although I spent a good few hours on our short course pitching from 50-80 yards and I think that's helped the short game tremendously.
So I'm off 8 all winter and hopefully I can get my driver sorted for the new season and really push on lower.

Its great to see read that folk are playing well, and gives me hope for next year too. I had a decent year, but never had a patch where it was very solid every round, so hopefully for next year there is hope!

I practice a lot but apart from maybe two or three good rounds (not in sequence) over the last two or three years I've never had a purple patch.

Bah!

Not yet :( I play some good stuff but can't maintain it for a whole round. Too many blobs. I am starting to understand my swing more and I am getting better but no sign of a purple patch....yet.

Great to hear you've made such good progress this year. Well done buddy keep at it and I'm sure as others have said you'll be single figures in no time. :)

Thanks guys all the coments are appreciated, well done to all that have done so well over the summer, time to get in some more practice over the winter,so we can start off running next year, good luck

Has anyone else hit a purple patch, and can you put your finger on why its happened.
Funnily enough since Beau when we played together!!!....I've come down from 9.4 to 6.6 in just 4 comps from 27th Oct....1.0 drop, 0.4 drop, 1.2 drop and 0.2 drop.

Main reason is the golf lessons and the swing change which I started in May this year and is just starting to bear fruit.

The fact you hit the ball like a 5 handicap helps as well Tony. :D
