the idea of a "For Sale" section for non golf items???
Most other forums (fishing and A/V) I am a member of have for sale sections for all sorts of things.
If it was strictly moderated, I reckon it would work.
It would save trawling through e-bay, Gumtree etc. to find something you wanted or had to sell

I can see it being clogged with items that should be on Ebay. Mainly by me!

If this section were to exist is should be a "wanted" section only to keep it from being over run with items nobody here wants and should be on ebay.

So for example if someone wanted a graphics card for their computer they could post, I would respond saying I have a spare one (well I would have done before I put it on ebay last week).

So say for instance you were sitting on a really good fishing reel that you know somebody would be interested in....(I'm not by the way). You've got to wait for somebody to post "fishing reel wanted" before you can let anybody know????
Can't see that working to be honest.
I think it should be for anything, certain number of post/time on forum to count towards reputation.
As I say, it could (should) work if moderated properly.

If it is moderated properly then it could work. It could be limited to members hobby items only for sale, that way someone doesn't advertise their grey grannies furniture or MOT failure Austin Allegro

I was going to sell my 42 tv on here last weekend but realized it had no for sale section...shame

We have had a couple of sour deals on here with the regulations as it is, opening it up to sell any old stuff is asking for bother. Similarly, if you want to chat about or sell golf gear, there is the GM forums, if you want to sell bric-a-brac, ebay and gumtree.

Hmmmm, with the numbers on here it'd be a great thing to do. You could restrict the posting to paid subscriptions and would generate income. Also a disclaimer telling all that GM have no responsibility in the items sold etc could even make a couple of new mods, we do need more

BUT

That's a little bit complex I guess, considering some of the "technical" issues the site kicks up on occasions.

The disclaimer already exists but we do help where we can with disputes. Ebay or appropriate forums would be the best way of selling.
ie selling a 42"tv, LG Full HD, you could get maybe 1 person looking at the advert on GM or over on the likes of the AV forums which has a massive audience of guys always checking the for sale sections. Just one example.

Hmmm, I was a member of an mg forum with fewer members than this forum and there were plenty of items on the for sale section and all sold very quickly. Establishing yourself on avforums would take a while just to flog a TV.

I would like a for sale section adding to the list of RFC's please. It's income generating! No need to get involved with disputes, that's when things get messy.

Could this not be thrown open to general consensus?
You know.....a proper poll or something.
I would hate it to die a death just because a couple of people think it's a bad idea.
Personally, I'd much rather somebody on here that I know personally (maybe) benefits from a bargain rather than a "no name" on E-Bay or Gumtree.

Ah sarcasm. The lowest form of wit

Sarcasm? Thought I was answering your question. When you initially asked the question it was discussed with Mike in the mods area but I don't think it went any further. Email him and ask would be the best way.

I think it's a good idea, it wouldn't be so hard to add a sub-forum so the golf stuff remains the main one, but there's still glitches with the NORMAL forum that don't seem to have been sorted yet... so why run if you can't walk?
