Tonight i posted a gross 71 (par 70) for a 47 points total which i hope will win the midweek medal.

Its my best score by one, by 2 competitively, i had 13 putts out and hit a lot of great iron shots. I should get a good cut hopefully and will push towards single figures soon.

But....

I missed a 7 footer on the 16th for birdee when i was level par, then bogied 17 when my 15 foot par effort lipped out to a few inches for a tap in 6. Birdee effort on 18 was a roll short from 20 feet. I had 18 putts coming back after having just 13 on the front 9. I had a lot of opportunities from inside 15 feet all the way round really.
Im a bit gutted that i didn't make par, really i could have shot a 65 if i'd have putted nicely i suppose..

I was also going to get a fitting for some MP 52's over half term, but i suppose i really shouldnt just now. I've been weighing it up for ages and am blaming my missing 8 iron for the need to splash out on these. Any one reckon i should still?

A fantastic score. I could see you being disappointed at being so close to scoring level par but you should be delighted at shooting so far under handicap.

Cut? you need to be barred for a while!

Joking aside, great play. Don't be too hard on yourself for "almost" making, but ultimately missing medium and long putts.
At least your game is heading where you want it to. Keep it up. :)

Even the top players moan that they leave shots out on the course even when they've shot the lights out so don't be too hard on yourself. If you haven't got a full set I'd be looking to either order a replacement 8 iron or (and I think you already know what you want to do) get a full set. If you do buy a new set be prepared to go back for a few weeks as you get use to them

Hoping to win? With a net 60 if you don't win you wanna start questioning some of the handicaps :D

That's a seriously good round, well played

Thanks guys, i played well and i am already feeling a bit better about it. 15 pars, one birdee and two bogies. pretty solid all in all

Homer, thanks for not mentioning the P word :) . You're right, i do want them, am doing my best to not give into the urge, using all my powers of reasonable-ness - i'll be a student soon enough for a year, I just forked out to re-wire a house i rent out. I really should keep the cash in my pocket, but...they're pretty nice, right??

is the css the same as par, cos by my calculation, wont you go down to single figuress with that?????
good shooting mate :)

Hey Spinn that's frighteningly good shooting why are you beating yourself up about a few putts that didn't go your way? Think about all the other great shots you hit.

As for the irons why not wait till the end of the season so you have the winter months to get used to them? Changing out when you're playing this well with the old set seems strange to me.

I don't think there's ever really a "good" time to change irons. Change in the winter and you're swinging with 15 layers on, playing to soggy greens or temps. Change in Spring and you've got to get used them pretty quick if you're going to play decently in the summer. Change in Summer and the fairways and greens are rock solid so you don't know how much spin you're putting on the ball. Change in Autumn - probably the time to change. Season's finished and you've got a bit of time until the cold weather gets you.

If you wanna change them - change them.

By my counting, you're now off 9.3 Well played :D

Good for the Spin-ster!

He and I were exactly the same h'cap not so long ago and agreed to have a game sometime. I think I'll wait for the 9.3 to read 3.3 before I trek over there for a game.

Watch the TV golf and see how many putts are missed by everyone apart from the guy who wins the tournament (sometimes him too!). Putting yourself in the position to have a good score at your fingertips is what it's all about, the more often it happens the more chance there is of you converting it positively.

Ok, think i've pushed all urges to buy new things out my head for a while. Until the next round in the 80's at least. You know how it is. Agree that now isnt good timing season wise and perhaps Autumn would be best

I'll find out what i'll be off saturday morning, not going up there before hand now i dont think.

Dave - there's no chance i'll get anywhere near 3 mate. Not a chance in the world (without a lotto win any way and the time to put the effort in).

Just One - I've been a very average putter forever, i have been putting a bit better since replacing the old insert one with the firmer scotty. I Should have made the one on 16 though, inside the hole, nice and true.....pulled it accross the hole in a nervous swipe i suppose

Tiger, nice updated blog site mate - been meaning to mention it!
