Hi all,

Just a quick note to say I now have an offical handicap of 16. Considering in two of the rounds I was 20 and 18 over for the first 9 I was a bit shocked at only getting 16. Although on the back nine of my last card I went par, par, par, bogey, par, bogey, par, par, triple bogey. To say I was in shock on the 18th tee only 2 over for the back 9 so far is an understatement.

Dont get me wrong I am delighted with 16 but feel I have a lot of work to do to play 18 holes to 16. I have struggled with the front nine so I have a lot of work to do. As its a links course I need to get my slice off the tee sorted as the wind is still a problem in the summer. Need to get my hands turning.

All in all I wont be playing for any hard earned cash for a few weeks to see how I get on. First offical medal on Saturaday morning with two people Ive never met.

I think the handicap committee picked my highest hole and doubled it for my handicap! Wish I had of missed that long putt for an eight!!!

Hi Farneyman,

Although your handicap may seem a bit low I think you would agree that you have demonstrated ability to play to that (or lower) level with that back nine you described.

Remember there is a cap of double bogey for handicap purposes, any strokes over double are dismissed.

When playing a medal, don't be put off by scoring a couple of 8's. These adjustments can save your handicap in competition's as well - even if you NR at a hole. Keep playing for your handicap.

What links is it you play at?

Prestwick St.Nicholas.

I know what your saying but I think that back nine was a fluke. It could be sometime before I repeat it, hope not. Not that Im complaining I would love to play to that all the time.

Im just glad to be back playing regular golf now. Havent really played much since oct 07 and with a 6 week old son my time is pretty limited now as well. I am just going to make the most of it no matter what way my handicap goes. Eventually I want to get to single figures and that back nine shows that I can...someday.

Had the same problem when I handed in my cards for h'capping purposes. 2 players can both gross at say 108, but score completely differently on each hole. One can be given a 24 h'cap the other a 28. This is exactly what happened to a friend of mine and me. I'm not sore about it (much) I'm the one on 24, but I have yet to beat him on gross and stableford.

I guess that we should just take it as a compliment, and realize that we have it within ourselves to play much better. But I struggle to score much over 25 s/f tops at the moment.
