All,

I played in my third club comp on Saturday (festival week at Bude last week) and although the first two didn't set the world alight, we (my normal playing partner and guy who joined up with us) came sixth out of around 50.

I play off 24 and my mate off 26. The guy who joined us played off 13, but hadn't played since November last year, and was trying some new irons!!! He scored on two of the holes, I scored on ten, and six for my mate.

Having a drink in the bar afterwards he mentioned that we could be cut, which is great, but I wanted to check if everyone agreed. Can you be cut in a three ball better ball comp? I don't see how personally, but he was obviously a man of more experience (older) than both of us!! ;)

Performances in such events can be taken into account if you were being considered for a general play reduction but for that to be happening you would need to have put several good medal/stableford scores in over a relatively short period of time.

Agree with Fyldewhite , cant see how they could cut you on that basis

Did a 4bbb in 48 pts earlier this year , a cut wasnt even mentioned and never would have crossed my mind tbh

I believe any golfer should be cut on request, on report or on general play if there is enough evidence for the committee to do so. Why shouldn't they? I would like to see more action taken in this way rather than less.

Its all golf, its all played on the course and its all witnessed in any comp.

I dont understand why anyone would be anything but pleased at a cut, no matter how it came about, so long as it was done fairly by appropriate officials.

I dont think it will happen in this case as it rarely does at most clubs, but it is possible for it to happen.

Your handicap is supposed to reflect your playing ability and the whole system is based around statistical analysis of scoring patterns etc.

If players were to end up playing off lower handicaps than they can actually play to (and believe me there are many players who try to manipulate handicaps down as well as up) then this would have the potential to affect the CSS and therefore everybody elses handicap.
