Rule 6.6d is quite specific!
Rule 6.6d is quite specific!
I'm not playing 😜
I have been a competition secretary, and had any number of bar room lawyers coming to me, complaining about how the Rules of Golf had been applied to them or their scores! Generally if I got the Rules or Decisions book out and pointed out the appropriate rule they went away satisfied, if not happy! This wasn't started for a discussion about specific rules in golf
Can that please be avoided.

I had a situation last year where I returned a score of 5 for a hole instead of a 4 (discussed on here at the time, I don't really want to go into it again). I raised it with the h'cap sec before the comp was closed as it meant I should have had a 0.2 cut but didn't get a response until 2 days after the comp was closed explaining there was nothing they could do about it. I responded explain that while I accept the comp result may not be changed, that my score should be corrected for h'cap purposes but was again told that nothing could be done. I asked CONGU about it and they explained that my h'cap should indeed be adjusted so I forwarded that response to the h'cap sec asking him to adjust my h'cap accordingly, I am still awaiting a response...
...so the answer is yes, I tried to do something but it did a fat lot of good.
Returning back to this and getting the thread back on track
Was that at Ascot and did you go back to Congu to seek further advice or even the county ?
This might go down the popcorn route soon me thinks 樂
I'm actually confused....you signed for a 5 under the Rules of Golf so surely it's a 5 whatever anyone says?!
But this isn't about the rules. Hawkeye asked CONGU the question could the cut be applied retrospectively after the error was reported. They said yes. Nothing to do with the competition result. His club as yet haven't applied the cut as CONGU suggested they should
Please show me where it says that CONGU can override the Rules of Golf? :mmm:
The score does stay the same but the HC itself can be adjusted for the mistake
It was all explained in the initial thread and confirmed by Congu

I believe that scores can be corrected for mistakes by the Committee, but not the player.

Sorry but your score has to stand under Rule 6.6d
"The competitor is responsible for the correctness of the score recorded for each hole on his score card. If he returns a score for any hole lower than actually taken, he is disqualified. If he returns a score for any hole higher than actually taken, the score as returned stands.
Exception: If a competitor returns a score for any hole lower than actually taken due to failure to include one or more penalty strokes that, before returning his score card, he did not know he had incurred, he is not disqualified. In such circumstances, the competitor incurs the penalty prescribed by the applicable Rule and an additional penalty of two strokes for each hole at which the competitor has committed a breach of Rule 6-6d. This Exception does not apply when the applicable penalty is disqualification from the competition.
Note 1: The Committee is responsible for the addition of scores and application"
