Gypsy scammers

Shame they seem to be targeting local golf clubs in the area, the law is very much against the golf clubs as you have to prove they broke gates etc to gain access. CCTV is a must for clubs now and not just to cheap surveillance that doesn't actually give you much of an image of things.

Oh yes, let's give the police carte blanche, obviously they can be trusted as judge and jury on everything.

It was probably because of policies like this that we have gone too far the other way.

Police wont do owt to them mate as the aggro involved is to much for them, they just wait for them to move on into another area and then they are another regions problem, it's far easier for them to sit at side of roads and dish fines out for things like a brake light not working or petty stuff like that. They are all right at dishing fines out and catching shoplifters and that sort of stuff but ask them to get their hands dirty forget it. I speak from experience in this as we had travellers/gypsies in the area and the mess that they made, break ins and damage went through the roof and the police did not want to know or get involved and eventually they moved on. Useless they are:sbox:

Hear hear!

we have 4 families of these so called travellers living in the town, the have bought bits of land and built houses surrounded by large fences and gates,at present they are all feuding against one another we have had 4 drive by shootings, numerous arson attacks, cars smashed into houses and lorries blocking roads, they closed the town for a funeral(blocked 3 major roads off) so the grid lock was terrible and the police have put a permanent van outside all the premises 24 hours a day 7 days a week at a cost to the tax payer, and we have a council member claiming they are a ethnic minority and have rights!!!!!! what about the rights of the law abiding families that live near them?

Travellers who set up camp at West Derby Golf Club are moved on by police Liverpool Echo, Apr 11 2013.

How do you reconcile the police won't do out belief with that headline and the report with it?

In my experience they did nothing. As I say they were camped up on a trading estate where I used to work and dispite loads of calls about threatning behaviour, door knocking asking if the car park needs tarmacing in an intimidating sales pitch, general littering and fouling and burglaries suddenly occuring the police did diddly squat and they were camped up on the estate for nearly 2 months after which they moved on of their own accord. The bills ran into tens of thousands of pounds in clean up operations and replacing goods that have mysteriously gone missing during their stay. So forgive me if my opinion of the police and gypsies is somewhat sceptical. If they have sorted out the problem at west derby then fair play to em but my experience was somewhat different

Thanks for that. It gives me a wider perspective on something I don't know much about.

I do remember a police inspector friend commenting that it would be improper for him to say travellers were thieves but he could safely say that when a group came into his patch the petty crime rate went way up, and when it moved on the petty crime rate came back down again. ;)

Believe me mate it is something you dont want to experience. It was not my company and I was on edge for the duration of their stay so god only knows how the owners of businesses slept at night. Good comment about the crime rate from the cop you know:) each force may be different but ours were very poor to say the least. We got to work one morning and all the cable had been ripped off from the outside of the building, we found out they had removed all the copper so they could sell it on as scrap metal prices have gone through the roof. We rang the police and were told that there were no available units at the moment as they were all taken up doing a traffic calming exercise on the dual carridgeway:eek: it was two days later that a unit arrived and they couldn't have been less bothered if they had tried. Needless to say nothing more was done on that matter. I could list dozens of things that happened which got no action. They are not all bad the gypsies but the bulk are. They pay nothing to the state and expect rights the same as the normal person in the street which is just plain wrong.

There is criminal legislation which can remove travellers under certain circumstances but there's got to be over a certain amount of vehicles and caravans and damage has to be caused or threats made IIRC, police tend to shy away due to human rights and all that nonsense and let the landowner go down the civil eviction route.

I remember an old retired bobby I know telling me a story about how a farmer removed scum from his field, he got his JCB out and dug a trench around the caravans, leaving a narrow strip for them to leave by, he gave them 10 mins to leave or he'd complete the trench, within 5 they were gone

The attitudes of the above few comments seem to me to be sort of attitude that led to the Hillsborough episodes, both original disaster and disastrous cover-up! I'm more concerned about a creeping Police State than the occasional apparent under-sentencing. The courts are a place for justice, not revenge.

To me, it's the lawmakers that have to sort out a 'rapid removal' procedure for such cases. Having to deal with it under 'normal' trespass is cumbersome and time consuming.

When the EU courts can overrule anything our own parliament decides then we are in a state of chaos.

Unfortunately I think paying these toolbags off will only cause more issues in the future as they know its almost gaurenteed money if they camp up around the course.

All the members should've teamed up and fought the scrots'

Are these "travellers" actually gypsies or just scallies that live in caravans?

A very valid point Louise. Some people just love to generalise and pigeon hole communities.

I know there is a legal definition but I think that's simply to define which benefits they draw, it doesn't define one group as law abiding and the other as not. We now live a world where groups defined by a given name who don't like the name insist (and we all comply) being called by a name which sounds nicer - 'traveller, 'gay' and the like. I travel and I am gay but I can't call myself a gay traveller because the words gay and traveller have ben hijacked. Bye the by traveller, gypsy, pikey all refer to a group of people who (in general, there's always exceptions to everything) want to take (benefits, your property) without giving (apying taxes).
