Grumpy old man

Is it just me or are other people fed up with the way some people write in here?
I know this is not a grammar test but even so, some of the writing and spelling leaves a lot to be desired.
Whatever happened to the 'Room 101' thread or should we have a grumpy old man thread?
I think I got out of bed on the wrong side this morning.

At least most posts avoid text speak, which is deliberate poor spelling and is definately worse than the genuine mistake.

Sadly grammar is no longer taught in schools, as far as I can tell.

"Definately" is definitely one of the most misspelt words on here.
I used to spell it like that until someone showed me the error of my ways.
Now I notice it constantly and it drives me to distraction.

As a current A - Level English student, I can say that grammer hasn't been taught since year 7. All we study now is Shakespeare and the like. The problem is that so many kids talk in 'Text Speak' that the english language is becoming smaller, I think Mr. Orwell was bang on.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but Mono your posts can be a bit of a shambles, gramatically.

In my original post I did not mention the younger generation as I know some of the older members are just as guilty.
I read one post that was five lines long. It was all one sentence and he was a self confessed older member.

I used to babysit (with my girlfriend) 20 years ago for a young woman who i now have on facebook, and if i may copy & paste one of her daily updates for you to read and attempt to translate:
"lol we nt out clubn, jus 4 a meal n a few drnks hes gos bk 2 camp 2mro hav a gud nite woteva ya doin hun xx"

This is everything that is wrong with the english language!! I had a conversation with her on facebook the other day and had a go at her for being a chav and not typing properly, so she did while she was chatting to me. They can do it, its just un-cool to type properly!

Close enough, the general message was put across . It seems that we have to versions of the english language, text and original. If you haven't read it 1984( George Orwell) would be a good read.
