Yeh.. I love courses where they grow heather across the fairways to stop the long guys. Didn't see a bunker in the middle of the 18th at 230yds to catch YOUR drive!!

It would have needed to be at 117 yards and in the trees to catch my drive on 18.Yeh.. I love courses where they grow heather across the fairways to stop the long guys. Didn't see a bunker in the middle of the 18th at 230yds to catch YOUR drive!!
You have to think you way round, and not just blast the driver. Oh right I can see your problem.

Gross for me too, probably already been said but I guess gross and your handicap are the only real true reflections of your ability.
Depends on the company, if its in a comp and what the comp is.
As an aside, what do we all aim to achieve when we play? We want to break 100, 90, 80... who ever says I want to shoot a nett 69?

I don't focus on either. Just worry about hitting the ball nicely and putting well and the score will take care of itself
After the round has finished people will look at whatever score will suit their aims.
If it's to break Net 70 then they will focus on Nett or break Gross 80 they will focus on Gross
But one thing I would suggest is to not NR just because you have a low stableford score.
NR's don't help the standard scratch at all.
Over the years multiple people used to just NR when they had a bad hole but instead of having a Capts bunker for Charity we are trying to make people donate a pound every time they NR to discourage them from doing so

That's a great idea. There is no reason to NR in a stableford. In a medal maybe for some golfers.

I have always been more concerned with my gross score as this gives me a true reflection on how my game is,how many of forum members when asked in the club house after a comp "what did you shoot today" give the nett score as opposed to the actual number of strokes taken,for the record my best nett score was 58,but I always get more pleasure in telling people my best gross is 66.

For me, in my head, it's always gross.
If some one asks, it's net, as that is invariably what the comp is, but I will often answer with both, so a 9 over, net 72, for instance.

That said, I'm not keen on playing a casual game with some one trying to finish every hole to post a pb of 130. Sorry, but I'm not. I'd rather they played stableford.

NRs are treated as a missed buffer so have the same effect on CSS as returning a card with a score that misses the buffer. NR'ing on 1 hole is also not a problem, you can still complete the card for handicap purposes as the NR hole would be treated as a Nett Double bogey. The NR is purely for the competition purposes, not you handicap. Too many people don't understand this.

I don't understand the distinction - it's not like your gross score and nett score are independent!
I want to get the lowest score I possibly can on any given day, I am ambivalent as to whether that is then expressed nett or gross.

The distinction is quite simple, one is the score you actually shot, the other isn't :thup:
