Had a lesson on Friday and the pro I see strengthend my grip. It was only a small change looking at the video , but felt massive and uncomfortable. I got it going in the lesson and the flight was stronger and distance improved, so it works, but, how long does it take to bed in a grip change and do you take it to the course straight away ?

I played in our comp yesterday and shot 79 (4 over handicap) and tried my best to use the new grip but after a couple of wayward shots i would just revert to my previous weaker one.

Some changes are instant and some never feel right. Perseverance is key (as well as getting ready to feel frustrated that the change isn’t working)

If you've made a change and seen the benefits then it is pointless reverting back to the "old way" when you play....it will just take longer for the change to be ingrained. You have to accept some short term pain in order to achieve long term gain.

Having said that, knowing that it does take some time to bed in changes, perhaps it wasn't the best idea to play the day after having a swing/grip change....maybe you would have been better working on the new grip for a week or so before heading out on to the course.

Have a club around the house and pick it up and have a few waggles regularly using your new grip.

Be careful not to over strengthen your grip though!

If he has changed you to a neutral grip get an old club and put a grip training grip on it and always swing with it a few times before any range/warm up session. It will quickly feel right.

It also a good thing to have for checking the grip from time to time.

Be very careful with a grip change. The reason I say that is, you've said it feels weird now, but you need to be careful that you are gripping it as intended and not chasing the "weird" feeling. Over time, "weird" will start to feel correct and if you keep thinking that it _should_ feel odd, you'll end up overdoing it.

Might be worth making some marks on one of your grips where your hands are now, and using that as a reminder

When I had a gapping session some 18 months ago the Pro noticed my grip and suggested a change.
I tried it and it , as far as I could tell, didn't make a difference
Except it hurt like hell
I have quite short fingers and to grip the way he suggested caused so much pain I reverted to the original style.
I can't say it's affected my scoring and my fingers don't feel like someone is trying to break them....
