Gotta love ebay

guys new to selling on ebay, my priceless advice is send everything with proof of postage. thats second class recorded. ranges from about £1.50 for letters, to £3.50 ish for small packets up to 1kg.

Without this, you are leaving your selves wide open to being screwed over.

How so? Can you tell me how it would happen without? For the sake of a pound its probably worth it!

I win an item you have sold

you send it by normal post

I receive item fine and dandy, however i notice you have used non tracked or recorded post. I then send a complaint to paypal/ebay saying i did not receive the item.

You are asked to prove you sent it by ebay/paypal. you cant prove it, so ebay/paypal refund me in full.

You are out of pocket your money and your item

The system stinks, ebay will always side with a buyer. so take every precaution you can to protect yourself.

I doubt its worth it for my 99p listings but I am using it for everything else.

Yeh for cheap stuff its probably ok, but anything of any value deffo send recorded.

Thanks for the advice, love this forum as most are honest and experienced! ;)

If I get proof of postage for the cheaper items, the free reciept, is that enough? Assuming I can get that on those parcels.

When selling on the 'bay I use RM to despatch smaller items and those that weigh less than 750grms... For larger items and anything that weighs over 750grms I use MyHermes... Expensive items such as cameras etc I use RM special delivery... Used to sell a lot abroad but due to postage charges rocketing last year don't get so much interest from overseas buyers these days...

Will keep them in mind.

Next item to go up will be a laptop without a hard drive, sadly cannot find a spare working hard drive to check its still working! I have a dead one, when I use the windows disk to try and install on it I an error message saying it cannot find the hard drive. If I try without a hard drive I get a different error so I can only guess it still "works".

Tom, be especially careful when dealing with ebayers with low number of deals or poor feedback. Try and build up your deals, even if it is with low value items, as it will be easier to sell more valuable items at a later date. Just beware there are a lot of scammers out there, who are looking to rip off innocent young pups like you.:D

Science ill be watching that item. Just bought a pc tower all working for £10. Going to attempt to either upgrade it or take it to pieces. Judging by pc component prices. Ill be taking it apart!

I am guessing you mean the graphics card and not the laptop with no hard drive? Whichever it is, good luck buddy! Its a steal IMO but as there is no other real way of getting rid I thought I would throw it to the vultures and give someone a bargain.

Crepe this Ebay thing is addictive! Listed 4 items now and probably sticking a few more on tomorrow! Might have to wait until I return from my holiday though as I will be cutting the endings tight before I fly.

Yeah, be careful. Some people don't pay up on the nose, you could be waiting a day or 2 for the money and that might take you into holiday time....

Did not think of that, most things have a week or so between ending and me going away. If they cannot pay in 5 days then will they ever? Still learning my lessons here, totally forgot about my going away when I started all this!

I will sort something out whatever to ensure sales go through.

Had a look at your items Tom, good descriptive titles on them now. And a few bids on the ATi card.
To help speed up payment (as people certainly can be slow as Imurg says), I normally follow-up the sale with a polite contact that says something like, "thanks for your purchase, your item will be dispatched within x days of payment being received".

This normally acts as a wee prompt and stays polite. If no payment after 3 days I follow up with another polite contact just asking if the item is required or not.

And you are right, it's addictive and I have another 5 listings on the go.

I've just sold 3 decent items on Gumtree with no cost to me at all. 1 person from Wolverhampton, 1 from Rugby and 1 from Coventry so all collected and paid cash

I sense a trip to DG & AG looking at waterproof jackets very soon ;)
