Not with my game, shot 76 :), but with the people in front. Hit a 3 wood into our tenth green, which is a par 5. The group were leaving the green, which exits left but the path is closer than the green, any way I hit a little off line and my 3 wood was pulled so the ball was heading toward them, shouted fore, nobody got hurt. No probs,
Stood on our 15 th tee, 320 to the green, group in front all heading to green, so get sorted, drive off, hit it well, don't think any more of it. But as we head to the green I notice my ball is through the green, ok there was wind behind, but I have played the hole plenty, with wind behind, closest I get is maybe 20 yards from green, so its a bit if a freak.
Realise I made a mistake, as I never thought I'd be anywhere near it, so walked over to the chaps to apologise, barely got the words out me mouth and got abuse.
Walked away, but it annoyed me, they were visitors, so I didn't know them, but they were completely ignorant and I just thought there's no need, I accept it was me that hit the ball, but I never intended or believed I'd get any where near them.
Would you have accepted the apology or not?

Wound me up.
 
i think it all depends on how close it actually came to hitting me. well done for making the green though, now you know you can do it all the time lol
 
TBH I don't think you have much reason to get annoyed. You nearly hit them twice and although called fore the first time didn't the second. I know it's a freak shot that you have never done before but if there is any chance of even getting it close (and 20m is quite close and could put people off their putt) then you should have waited.

Maybe they shouldn't have given you abuse and accepted your apology but at the same time they have the right not to accept it and got to admit I wouldn't have been too impressed if you had flown a green I was standing on without calling fore.
 
I don't think flew the green, more rolled up it, but I see your point, I have had balls hit toward me previously and I find it annoying also, but if the chap apologises I can accept it and move on.
 
Awkward... always is. There's a few greens on my old course and a couple on the new that you can get on the green if you boom one... so do you wait for the green to clear and hold up the group behind you just so you can top*/thin*/fat*/snaphook*/slice one into the cabbage* [delete as appropriate]

I don't like to land a ball within 50yds of a group in front as I think it can be off-putting for them.. it is when it happens to me

I've hit a few in my time that I never thought would reach only to have the guys in front shout "Fore!" back at me :mad:
 
So you played too soon, nearly hitting these guys on two consecutive holes and you wonder why they were upset?

My round today took 2hrs 45 mins - two ball with us held up by the groups ahead, so we're not slow. The guys behind us consistently played too soon - several times teeing off before I'd played my second shot. They're either trying to hit it past us or admitting they don't hit it as far as a girl..... (Ok, turns out they don't but it's close). That's just rude.

At the 15th you have to walk back from the green to the 16th tee; the prat couldn't even wait 30 seconds for that and hit a very dangerous shot almost over our heads. Any mishit on that shot would of put us at great risk.

My point is it took all my control not to go and give him a piece of my mind; if he'd spoken to me he'd have got it both barrels.

Sounds like you didn't mean to and hit an unusual shot with that drive but did you actually give them sufficient SAFE clearance at the 10th? From their point of view - they don't know how far you drive it - you were bang out of order.

Why not wait a few seconds longer until there's no risk at all?
 
I got annoyed myself today. Was playing in a group of 4 and half way round was looking good for breaking 100 for the first time. A hole behind was a group of 3 ladies and 2 holes behind (as the holes doubled back on themselves) a group of 3 had a go at us for slow play. It was completely unjustified as we ourselves were being held up by the group ahead of us. I hate slow play myself and all 4 of us were left confused. After that, I got really bothered by it and my concentration just went and my scoring dramatically worsened. Didn't enjoy the back 9 as I spent the whole time looking behind us. Suprisingly, they never even got close to catching us up. I know I should not have let it affect me, but it did and was a good lesson to learn.

I see your point, we were stuck behind them all round, but it wasn't quick so we weren't rushing, based on the fact its my home course and generally know where I'm going I never dreamed I'd be near them. They had sufficient time on 10 but it pulled, these things happen. As for leaving 50 yards, there are just some holes at the minute where we would all be waiting for greens to clear before teeing off.
 
No and I would have reported you. You're actions were dangerous and your attitude bemuses me, you seem happy to take the chance of injuring people.
 
Ok, how would it appear I'm happy to injure someone, based on every factor at hand I played accordingly, this is not something that has happened before, nor I hope again, I have been hit with a ball in the neck an know how painful it can be, so under no circumstance would I wish to hit someone.
I played it as I saw it, I apologised, they could have been more gratious in declining my apology.
Which is why I'm annoyed.
 
Its 340 off the greens, but they were forward, 320 from the ladies tee we were around there, I know I can hit the ball well, but 260 270 is about right so this I thought was well out of range. I have played the hole hundreds of times and closest I've been is 20 yards short a few weeks ago, similar wind same tee so never dreamed I would be close.
 
You've made a couple of unintentional errors of judgement which I am guessing is not the norm for yourself... You've then quite rightly sought to do the right thing, apologise... Not a lot you can do if your apology is rebuked... Suggest you draw a line under it and just take on board the lesson of allowing a bit more 'room' for the group in front...
