Played today and knobbed me second shot into some mature oak trees. Took two to get it out and as I was walking outta the woods a PP who was watching me smash the ball out said " look behind you". After a few seconds he points up into the tree about 15-20 ft and there is the biggest fattest goose sat on its nest in a tree.

Eh I never knew Geese nested in trees. It's nest was in a large branch which is split open. How do the young uns get down though. Would love to be there to see that one. If I get chance on Thursday al take a photo.

As mr Jones once sang " It's not unusual " :D

That is strange, I would have said that geese usually nest on the ground, however after a bit of googling it seems that Canada Geese often nest in trees usually in old heron nests.

Yup I had a look on google and was Suprised to see them up there. This one is not a Canada goose. One of the lads said its a " pink foot " never heard of them.

flippin Eck, just had a look and there is pink foot geese.

well that's today's lesson learned.

Saw some ducks sitting on the roof of my neighbours house last week. Apart from when flying I have never seen ducks that high before.

you should contact the RSPB then tash, seeing one still here is unusual this time of year as they are migratory birds and by the end of April they would have flown north to their breeding grounds in Greenland and Iceland.

nope if its a PFG, the RSPB would be interested, not in the tree, but the fact its still here and nesting, especially well inland. these birds are winter visitors and stay close to coastal area and i think only make short stops inland to either feed or stop of on the route down or back up north. We get thousands of them wintering around Inverness, but every one of them went a few weeks ago.

With that, I wonder if it was just having a minute then. Gotta say that's there's loads of them on the course crapping everywhere. Will take note when I play later today. There was one last year that had its leg broken and was hopping everywhere. It's pals hung around for a good bit with him/her.
