Goodbye Sky Sports

Having done some research It looks like virgin has not reached a deal with BT Sports yet. It may be free, it may need a subscription or it may not be available at all. That is pretty frustrating. Hopefully it will be part of the XL package like ESPN was.

Hope you're right about the free inclusion, as we've lost ESPN it would be nice if they replaced it with BT Sports.

I gave up on Sly about 4 years ago and haven't looked back. Any sport I want to watch I can watch online and to be honest the rest of it was pretty crap so didn't miss that at all.

Both times i've cancelled my Sky sports i've had Sky call me and offer me 12 months half price Sports package, with no contract obligation to keep it 12 months, worth thinking about if you have it. I did accept it last time but i've just cancelled again and refused it this time, can do without.

Cancelled at start of the month and it goes on the 31st. Movies going too. How can they justify a price increase in Sept after announcing £1.2 billion profit???
I don't watch a great deal of sport. Only football I watch is Villa and they are only on twice from Sept to November on Sky. I am going to one match and if I really want to watch the other you can get a day pass for a tenner.

Haven't had Sky Sports, Sky Movies or any extra channels for years now, dont need them with the internet. I get all my movies and sport fixes online. FrontRow sports is good.
Now ESPN has gone though I need to find another way to watch the UFC as its on BTSports now.

Same here, cancelled at the start of the year and was bombarded with offers to stay .......... If they can offer me 12 months for free why couldn't they reduce the monthly fee.

Sky is overpriced and overrated I'm glad to see the back of it .....

Crap I totally forgot about that!.... Going to have to stream it myself somehow!

Not had Sky for ages now, watch everything on First Row through Firefox and with the ABP blocker on its brilliant. Got my old Sky box which just gives us all the Freeview channels which keeps HID happy. Get to watch all my footy games not just the ones being promoted on Sky and of course all the golf.

Felt exactly that way and got rid 6 months ago. Don't even miss the golf as it was just adverts break galore.

Certainly feeling a bit more confident about my decision now. The cricket is covered by TMS and there is enough F1 on BBC to keep me happy. To be honest I will not miss the golf that much, other than the majors I am not a massive fan of watching it on TV. As for the rugby, I will miss that but the amount of games that I can watch has basically just been halved so the value is just not there (imagine if you were a football fan and had to have a subscription for the Premier League and another one for the Champions League as that is what Rugby is stuck with).

The whole Virgin/BT thing looks to be a bigger mess than I thought. I went through a few forums last night and people are far from happy. Virgin will not reduce the cost of their XL package despite losing one of the main attractions with EPSN. Furthermore, Virgin posted that they were pushing to have something sorted by the start of the football season in 2 weeks (imagine how that went down with the Scottish and non EPL fans). UFC seems to be another sore point as apparrently BT have it exclusively and you cannot even get it on PPV on Virgin.

Anyway, the whole thing is a mess all created by the insistance of 'fair play' stopping one company have the rights to a whole sport.

I'm quite happy with Sky. Each to their own and all that but for what I get to watch that I actually I enjoy, I find it good value for money.

I would hope that when it shakes out we all get a better deal... its not looking like that though...

Nope, latest rumours are that it is going to be at least a £5 a month charge for XL customers and £12-15 for non XL customers if a deal is reached at all. Apparrently the last Virgin price increase was to cover the cost of Sky Atlantic and BT Sport but they have not reached a deal on either. The problem is that a large part of the aims of BT sport is to attract broadband customers and Virgin are the main competition. As soon as BT Sports goes to Virgin then less people are likely to ditch Virgin for BT and so there is no benefit to BT doing a deal. Some rumours suggest that it will not be until at least next season before a deal is reached as it allows BT plenty to time to steal broadband customers

As a sports nut, I'm more than happy with Sky. Expensive, yes, but I get my 2ps worth from them: Football (championship), boxing, cricket (all forms), rugby, occasional darts, Sky Sports News, golf, etc. Plus SkyGo which I use a lot.

As for Sky politics, profiteering...I couldn't give a rat's rear-end. Does the job for me. :D

This, in a nutshell.

That probably explains why we were offered a new broadband deal for 12 months for about £5 a month less than we currently pay.... the £5 they'll be getting back if we sign up to BT Sports.....
