Hello all, Ive just started having a dabble in the wonderful world of golf, having started hitting a few balls I was wondering when you guys first started what was your handicap after 6 months & then at the end of the 1st year, trying to set a goal & seeing if there is an average I should be going for in these two periods.

My advice would be to start with a series of 6 or so lessons (providing your budget can stretch) and get the basics right. If you can start without any ingrained faults it really does make easier in the long run. Other than that get out and start playing. I'd not worry too much whether you start on 28 or lower and what level you reach after six months or a year. Don't put any pressure on yourself and just enjoy it

Welcome to the forums :)

Targets are a very difficult thing to gauge for a new player. It will depend on things like natural ability and the amount of time you can dedicate to it.

I agree with the others in just enjoying it for now, and maybe getting involved in some group beginner lessons. They will get you set with the correct grip and posture without which you'll find it hard to progress, and they're normally fairly cheap as clubs try to get people involved in golf which benefits them in the long run.

Welcome welcome!

I say get out there and enjoy your golf rather than focus on scores at the moment. Lessons are important, for golf as much as for other things like swimming, maths and driving a car. No one can just start doing it well without learning the basics first! Once you know them you will find fun in hitting great shots, the scores will come as you develop feel and touch.

Lessons are well worth the investment if you are going to play even as little as once a week!
