Golf's Most Craziest Rule???

As we all know, there are some daft rulings in this game, but out of all of them , what is the most daft ?

I'll get us started

** If you find a bunker and it is full of water, if you cannot drop in there then its a 1 shot penalty to drop outside (harsh if you ask me)

** Having to play out of a divot (Sorry Guys, its G.U.R surley?!?!?)

** You can't ground a club in a bunker, yet shuffling your feet to build is stance is ok? (thats all the testing of the sand you need! :))

Over to you!

I agree that all of these rules are correct.

Play the ball as it lies unless a rule tells you not to or offers you another option, free or otherwise. That is the basis of the game of golf.

Certainly prepared to do so.

Which is why I don't get as angry at my bad shots as I do with the ignorant so-and-sos that don't replace divots, rake bunkers, repair pitch-marks - even off the green - and any damage their clumsy footwork causes. Of course, I repair all of those, so it's only me that suffers them!

I'd also don't really see much difference between a ball plugged in the fairway versus one plugged in the rough. Both have 'suffered' from the course not being in the condition desired but only one gets free relief.

Along the lines of an earlier post but you hit a tee shot into trouble, you DO play a provisional, you then find your first ball in a bush and declare it unplayable, straight line back from flag and 2 club length drop options aren't helping you so you decide to take option 3 and replay the shot from the tee. You've already played a provisional which is sitting pretty on the fairway but you cant use it because you found your first ball! Seen it happen more than once and very frustrating for the player and their partners and the next group waiting on the tee!

Rule could be changed to allow you to play the provisional in that situation, you're getting the same 2 shot penalty so why not?

Because that would give you 1 more option than elsewhere!

And if the 'provisional' was also in a dodgy place?

You can, and probably should, call the group on the tee through too.

I used to think the same but then it was explained to me that in that case you would then be in a position to chose whether to drop the first ball under Rule 28 or or play the provisional ball, depending on which option you thought was most advantageous and as a matter of principle you shouldn't have a choice between which of two balls to play on with.
