As we all know, there are some daft rulings in this game, but out of all of them , what is the most daft ?

I'll get us started

** If you find a bunker and it is full of water, if you cannot drop in there then its a 1 shot penalty to drop outside (harsh if you ask me)

** Having to play out of a divot (Sorry Guys, its G.U.R surley?!?!?)

** You can't ground a club in a bunker, yet shuffling your feet to build is stance is ok? (thats all the testing of the sand you need! :))

Over to you!

Can't say I agree with any of them.

1- it's a hazard, why should you get a free drop out of it!

2- when does it no longer become a divot? I can imagine people moving their ball for 'divots' all day long!

3- again, if you touching the sand with your club your likely to be preparing yourself a better lie .... might as well do with bunkers all together.

Golf Rules are meant to be fair - to all. and the concept of 'rub of the green' is built in.

I'd love to get relief from fairway divots a;; year round, but believe that would mean less maintenance happens.

Inability to tap down the spike marks the inconsiderate sods in the group ahead created is my gripe. Because I tap them down for the group following!

Love it!, This is how Forums should be. You don't agree? Then argue properly. Good Job.

I just feel it there going to be inconsiderate and not repair a divot then why should we struggle? I will play from a Divot if i land in one and won't cheat , but i feel it's unfair.

As for the bunker, It is not your fault the weather (or even a dodgy sprinkler head) means you can't play from the bunker. so why get penalised twice?? We get "Wipe & Place" on the fairways when the fairways are damp and can drop a plugged ball in fairways and even rough at some courses, so why can't it be extended to a bunker.

Greenkeepers should mark those as GUR. Problem solved.

Certainly seen that at Senior's Open Final Qualifying after 2 days of horrendous downpours!

Pro's get a free drop from nearly every missed shot, whereas we have to hack out of whatever clag is left untended at the back of the green.

Rules are the same!

They are just more aware of potential relief situations etc - aka 'more professional'!

Because its suppose to be a sand hazard & not a water hazard:confused:

True to a point. But when you see a pro fly through the green and wind up with a perfect lie because its all cut to accommodate the crowd and he gets to pick the best spot within a club of nearest point to drop it on, you can't help but feel cheated that whenever you run through the green you get the mother of all lies to try and play a gentle chip from.

Look at it a different way -normally it's a pond full of water, but sometimes you get the advantage of there not being any water in it so you get to play out of it

That's a different course then! A different issue.- nor a Rules one.

At the end of the day a bunker is supposed to be a hazard.
Why should you get a free drop from a hazard?

Divots!
When is a divot not a divot but a scrape on the grass..?
7 hour rounds will be the order of the day as everyone tries
to claim a divot unless they have a perfect lie...

If you touch the sand with your club you will almost certainly be improving your lie - once again, it is supposed tto be a hazard.

I don't understand why a rule infringement is a 2 stroke penalty in a stroke play competition but is the loss of the hole in Matchplay. A 2 shot penalty is not insurmountable in Matchplay but why is, say, playing the wrong ball such a draconian penalty?

I'll probably get 'flamed' for this but I'll put it out there anyway. OOB/lost ball and replaying shots. In this day and age of avoiding slow play at all times, changing this rule would speed things up a lot. If your ball goes oob, instead of walking back to the tee/wherever you hit it from drop within two club lengths of where it crossed the line. Same with a lost ball, lower the time to 3 minutes and if no luck drop in a mutually agreed place where the lost ball was likely to have been.

Bounce games fine, but I could see a mutually agreed position being potentially very difficult to achieve in a competitive game; eg 'I'm sure it was probably around here, in the cabbage but with a view to the green/ easy out' versus ' I'm sure it wasn't, I reckon you were the other side of that large bush'.

Yes I think that makes a lot of sense when you are not expecting to lose a ball or bouncing OOB when you can't see it.
Walking back was OK when the courses were quiet but on a 'full' course it can cause mayhem. Mind you in normal play most sensible golfers play a provisional.

Hitting a power line and you HAVE to play your shot again. Why not get the choice?

Yeh i hit one on a short par 3, it just clipped it and did not detract from a good shot, ball landed within 5 ft. had to play again and i only just got on the green! completely on the wrong side, and just managed to scrape a par.
