Had a bite of lunch at the club today with my wife…and after I suggested she might want to see our new 2nd hole being built. Yes I know that sounds weird but she’s heard a lot about the controversy surrounding the work so I thought she’d like to see what it’s all about. And yes…she was interested. And we had a look. And she thought it looked great. Now she knows

I had a very nice Club Sandwich and she (the cat's mother ) had a cheese and ham omelette - since you asked. Happens that our new chef and his sous chef are excellent and do splendid food at very decent prices - and in our completed refurbished and upgraded ground floor bar and dining areas it all works well.

Had a lesson this morning - my pro identified very quickly why I could hit some shots well (driver off the tee and wedges) - and why I completed mistimed and mishit everything else. The good. Driver off the tee? - mostly despite everything I was doing wrong; Wedges - mostly I was actually, and without really knowing it, doing the right thing.

And so we set about sorting things - and it's all about getting my address correct as the basis for 'compression' at strike - as he called how and where the club strikes the ball.

The difficult thing is that what I see of the shaft and club head at the address, is sooo very weird to my eyes. A couple of photos of me confirm that what he is saying is correct...of course it is...but as I stand there over the ball it feels very far from correct.

25 balls a day (no more) with very strict adherence to the practice procedure he gave me is required - day-in; day-out. It's going to be tough - but hey - I'm up for the challenge. I have to fix what has been making me miserable for a couple of years (after solving my hoselling problem)

Got 11 holes in last night, still light enough at 7.45pm as we finished and I was in just a polo shirt, still warm!

I played yesterday -

All the whites posts round the greens that we are not allowed past had now been removed. That's a fair few less yards spent walking for me ( I am a buggy user). Probably part of why I managed 18 holes.

Signed on the dotted line on Monday for new club. My subs ran out on my old place March 31st. I'm away for all of May and new place subs run May to May, so I popped up there to see if there was anyway they could let me sign up for April to May next year, well I am away for all of May soooooooooooo. No problem at all.(So I'm getting 13 months for 12). Subs paid, log in sorted, access to all comps immediate. E mail messages flowing in. First two comps booked ONLINE !!!!!!!!! A stableford and a Texas scramble shotgun.
Initial thoughts? I'm very excited!!!!!!!! And impressed. What a MASSIVE improvement from my old place. I got a e mail from my old club today. I thing to say, er you know that thing we wanted to do and trialled, well it don't work so we aren't going to do it sorry we led you down the garden path with an idea that the systems can't cope with. (Basically).
I think I'm reeeeeeally goooooooonna like it heeeeeeeeere!

Sorry Ian - please can you settle a debate between myself and a friend ?

On Saunton East‘s 13th hole, par 3, as pictured… is a player entitled to relief from the white path to the left of the green - (which was very much in play, due to into crosswind from the right)

If I recall, it’s one of those paths made of white bits of shell, small stones and who knows… all quite crushed up? Not a grassy path.

Scorecard says: “the maintenance track to the right of the 1st hole and all artificially surfaced tracks and paths are treated as immovable obstructions from which relief is allowed under rule 16.1. All other paths are integral parts of the course.”

Slam dunked my second shot today on our par 3 second, pulled my tee shot left and had about 20 yards left, best birdie I’ve made, cracking sound when it hits the flag stick and drops in

Wait till he’s played his first round, told the green keeper he could do his job better than him, the committee his idea for comps are better than what they run and probably told the pro how he should run his shop. You’ll soon get the first moan then that nobody listened to him
