Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

For those of you that are still waiting, there is always hope.
That's my brothers course and was with him when he had his hole in one
.There are 6 par 3's but still a great achievment 😀

Playing in shirt sleeves - in November 😎

I teed off at 8:30 on Sunday, after the fog had cleared enough to see down the fairway. Five holes in and it was gloriously sunny and warm. I was actually feeling too hot in a long sleeve base layer under my polo... although the wind picked up on the back nine and got a little cooler. Love it

The assistant pro from Chippenham, James Cooper has just completed his 4th (and sadly final) round in Q School. He opened up with a +4, but improved with 2 level par rounds and a final -1 round today. He hasn't made the cut but for someone who isn't playing full time (or even regularly), and spends his day in the pro shop or giving lessons, his accomplishments have been brilliant. Hopefully he can build on this next year and go onto being a full time player.

Watching my wife really enjoying herself in the golf course. Confidence is growing, lots of smiles, lots of good shots, asking did you see what I just did! I also couldn’t help but laugh at how she’s developed some of my mannerisms/quirks. Such as after every practice swing with and iron, chip or putt she would wipe the face of the club on her left trouser leg left prior to set up or aligning her ball on the tee with the black dot marked on it with where she wants the club face to hit it, plus a couple of others 😂

My personal favourite is one she’s developed herself she has a Jelly Cat golf ball plush thing on her bag (apparently there no excuse to not have your bag looking cute), every time she takes a club out now it gets a little squeeze for luck! When she was doing it she caught me chuckling and said well if it’s good enough for you to do weird stuff I can to 🤣

It’s been a good day ❤️

A very happy 86th birthday to Lee Trevino
Couple of things immediately spring to mind...his chip in from off the green on the 17th at Muirfield - a chip in that rattled Jacklin who three-putted - and Trevino won on the 18th. And of course watching BBC's Pro-Celebrity Golf with my dad - mostly I recall the Gleneagles Kings Course rounds. Yapping away (sometimes must have been irritating for the other Pro and the Celebs) but every round conjuring the most fabulous golf shots. Wonderful. Oh the happy and blissfully innocent and carefree days of the 70s and early 80s.

After not lifting a club for two full weeks coupled with spending that time shovelling Christmas levels of food & drink in my gob, it was good to step onto the practice range this morning
Just hit 4-5 balls with each club to get familiar again. Dispersion was a bit ropy on a few shots but distance was fine and the longer clubs had too much draw in the shot shape but tweaks sorted that

Short game was def rusty & needs more hits and pulled the first couple of putts on practice green before settling down & finding a rhythm again

Sitting in office now and I ache but in a good way I suppose. Its amazing how quickly the body regresses since I’d usually practice 2/3 times a week & play once a week

Tee time booked for Saturday so we’ll see what that brings but it was definitely cool to be up at the club again

Jamie got his conditional acceptance through yesterday for a spot at Myerscough next year. He seemed pretty chuffed judging by the "YES DAD!!!" I heard from him when he opened the email.

Great news. Do Myerscough offer a module on YouTubing sponsored by their famous alumni, Shiels and Finch?

Rick actually did a video there a couple of years back - 5 grand for the winner.

Celebrity alumni aside, they take the students on some cool trips. Helping out at the BMW at Wentworth, and the Alfred Dunhiill Links. Some of them get to caddy when the Aramco series visits the UK, and they have links with LIV as well as the DPWT so some students get some pretty vool opportunities there.

If you’re a golfer, and want to do further then higher education - I don’t think it gets much better tbh.
