Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Saw a guy on the Victoria line this morning at 7:30 kitted out for golf, carry bag on his shoulder. He was properly ready to tee off, bushnell hanging from his bag. When he got off at Oxford Circus I wanted to ask him what hole he was playing.

Felt good to see someone off for a fun day, although I was a little jealous because I was heading to work.

…and this morning with revised course slope and CR rolled out I find that my CH has gone up from 8 to 10.

Whatever encouragement I might have needed to put more GP and comp cards in this has been boosted with the objective I need of getting back to SFs…My golf has got lazy and I think I needed an incentive to work on my game. QEF.

Clubs and shoes cleaned yesterday ready for the first open of the season this weekend. Currently have six opens booked between now and the middle of May.

Glad you've got golf coming up... but does that mean your gear has been sitting manky since you last played 😞 :p

Love it when dog walkers leave balls on the tee boxes that they’ve found elsewhere. Came home today with an extra Taylormade, Srixon, and Calaway. Makes up for previous lost balls!

Just imagine what those dogs did to mark those balls when they came across them in the woods!

Just back from the driving range - sun was shining, it's a beautiful day. Struck the ball so well with every club - full of naive optimism at the moment, but my swing genuinely feels the best it's ever been, the cack weather is starting to turn as well. Just put me in such in a good mood. I expect this mood to end abruptly on the second tee on Saturday, but still. 😄

As the club summer matchplay season is upon us our handicap and rules secretary has sent out an email highlighting the main rule differences between matchplay and strokeplay. It covers everything I'd hope it would - but will be useful for members new to, or inexperienced in, matchplay - plus a reminder for all of us.

The one that pleases me most to see is something that has bugged me all the time I've been a member of my current club - he states that on the 1st tee the honour goes to the player on the top of the draw. This is how I'd always known it but its is something that folks at my club seemed unaware of. I don't know whether it's a Scottish thing (as he's Scottish) but I'm glad it's there - whether it's actually in the rules I'm not sure but as order of play is important in matchplay I'm glad he's set out the clubs directive/ruling on it.

As it happens - I always understood that the same applied for organizing matches - the player or pair on top of the draw made the initial approach to the opposition - though he didn't include that in his email when outlining the responsibilities of all parties when arranging matches.

I always think it's nice to begin a match with a coin toss to decide the honour. Obviously other traditions are just as valid.

Subs email has arrived.....
150 quid cheaper than last year although there's been a 52 quid increase..
As Fragger, CVG and myself have been there 5 years we've paid the "joining fee" and are now Full Members.
So we pay the Member's Loyalty rate which is 200 quid less...
So subs down by 150...what's not to like:love:
