Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Looks like we have now got Red Kites nesting on the course. Saw a couple today. They were 20 yards above. Okay am look massive. The local Buzzards and crows don’t look happy.

The Trackman range I've been going to recently, for some reason they don't have a ball machine, the lad working there just makes the basket up by hand. Works out great as last night I paid for 50 balls and actually received around 66 or 67 by my calculations, which is probably the perfect number. 50 never feels like quite enough whereas 65-ish means you can a little bit on short game at the end. 😁

God knows how many he gave me when I asked for 100 a few weeks ago - no wonder my hands were cut and bruised afterwards.

I use a couple of different ones near me but the one I go to most says 96 and when I hook up my trackman it always says I hit 96. No idea who decided that four less balls than when I used to play made that much economical sense lol.

Last few weeks have been a real bag swop for me. Including a new bag. But I put two vokey wedges on Facebook for sale. Last night I was watching an ELO tribute band ( very good). Anyway I got a message asking for a lower price on a wedge as the guy was from Oldham. Odd thing is I haven to Bury market today and planned to call in and see my auntie. She lives in Oldham. 😳😳😳. Anyway I took both wedges. And he bought both. 😁👍

Oh ah, I rang my auntie and she wasn’t in. She was shopping in ASDA 😂 she rang me when I was in Holmfirth.

During my time in the navy, visiting an auntie had a whole different meaning 😳

Been struggling with my game over the last couple of months… Poor ball striking, a 2 way miss, lots going on…

Played with a chap on Saturday with a similar handicap, who quietly mentioned to me towards the end of my round that I was sliding my hips.

With that in mind, went out yesterday and shot 70. finished bogey, bogey, bogey for level par.

👏

After more than a decade with a handicap that just wouldn’t drop to ‘a shot a hole’ level, the last couple of years has seen a big change with yesterdays GP round getting me down to 11.4 this morning
On one hand it’s still unfathomable that I could have the game to ever dip under 10 but seeing the 11. against my name does make me dare to dream…

Must be the tips you have picked up from being up close to the pro's when caddying

Well done, onward and downward :ROFLMAO:

This years new club team shirt and fleece had arrived on Saturday (they are subsidised by the club, so we pay £20 for each) , decided I would get some new shoes and a couple of gloves while in there, I like to support the club pro shop where possible.

There was more than enough in my winnings account to cover the lot :giggle: so no explaining to do when I got home :ROFLMAO:

Winnings? What are they?

It's a term that was introduced with WHS to represent the money that high handicappers collect for entering competitions. The higher the handicap the higher the frequency, you can draw a straight line on a graph to map this - this is known as the Winning Index (TM) or WI.

You can use this in the following formula: WI x SI + HI x (CR - par) = bandit coefficient.

Nice, my handicap is going up and up so I can look forward to this. (y)

Course drying out and firming up nicely. All we need is a bit more warmth and the grass will start growing.

Right now ours is the perfect conditions for me. Dry but the rough is cut down lol 😆 don't need that stuff growing back! They will tho , we host the PGA championship flag ship event in June. They will want it brutal

Our halfway house ‘relaunching’ with decent hot food and snacks and going to be open set hours at weekends instead of just when they can get a random student to man it. Food and beverage slightly let down the club and good to see they are trying to improve it to match all the hard work they have put into the course.
