Hi there,
I am in the market for a pair of golf specific sunglasses. Delb has been banging on about them, and at the moment he is whipping my ass since he got his, and thought I would try and garner some opinion on makes, models, prices and so on.

Can anyone help please??

do you use prescription glasses? i have been looking about for some wrap around prescription lens and best ive seen, seem to be the adidas evil eye.

I was looking for a pair of wrap rounds but with my eyes being so bad and the lenses needing to be quite thick (even on their thinnest option) that style isn't an option. I am going to look at getting a normal pair of prescription sunglasses and perhaps get polaroid lenses to cope with the glare better. best I can hope for short of a labrador and white sticks

I enquired about this and was told that the wrap-around lenses could not be made as a prescription, because of the curve.

Please don't anyone get those prescription glasses that turn tinted in the sunlight... make people look very dodgy.... you know what I mean.

Some great prescription sunnglasses about now. Ray Ban Aviators never go out of style. Sandy Lyle wore them for a bit so presume they are secure enough for golf.

I'll second that, used to have a pair and were one of the worst purchases I've ever made. Made me look even more stupid than God chose to.

@ PBrown7582 - Have you thought about trying contacts, allowing you to wear whatever sunnies you like?

I wear a pair of these

Too expensive for the prescription lenses, but a great pair of sunglasses.

I recently got a a quote for Oakleys to get prescription lenses and it was £330!!!!!

same price I was quoted 2 years back when I bought mine, but that did include the frames, it's not just the prescription price..............effectively doubles the price of the glasses, no sense to do it unless you really can't see without prescription lenses.

After reading that I'm still not sure if you mean just sunglasses or prescription lenses as well?

I've just got some Oakley Flak Jackets after plenty of recommendations on here for them and they are very good. I also got the golf specific G30 lenses and sceptical as I was they do help you see the ball and the contours of the course better. They seem to make greens more vivid which makes it easier to see white against it.
When you first put them on it seems like everything is tinted pink but you soon get used to it. Rose tinted specs should help a golfer. :)
They also don't cut out too much light so it doesn't have to be bright to wear them. I wore them in Wales!

The only downside for me is that I got the G30 lenses in standard size and it's a little offputting being able to see out of the side of them when you look up to your target from address. I probably should have gone for the XLJ lenses.

I think they probably make me look like Jeremy Clarkson's version of an M3 driver but that is the least of my fashion and golfing worries. Might even be better to draw attention away from the rest of me.

yeah i have daily disposable contact but they cannot correct my sight quite as well as glasses do hence looking into prescription sunglasses, you never used to be about to get the wrap around type but now you can for some precriptions.

Told you so!! :ears:

Thank you Derek

It's very strange. They cut out enough light so that you're not squinting, but not so much that you can't wear them on a cloudy day. In fact you probably see better with them than without them on a dull day.

Agreed. Amazing, aren't they.
I thought they'd get in my line of sight, so to speak, when I'm hitting shots, but you barely notice they're on after a while.

I have just had my eyes tested as I get a bit of stick as I often lose the flight of a ball once its gone past around 160 ish unless there is a blue sky or tree background etc.

The optician told me i have am very slighlty short sighted but with a very mild prescription (-0.25 / -0.5). I have got them to get me some glasses to use whilst driving etc to get used to them.

I wanted to get some oakleys this year and wear them for golf just to keep my eyes fresh and was going to get prescription but as you guys say its around £300!!! had my eye on Flak XLJ's but am thinking maybe the G30 lenses might just help the ball stand out a little more than usual. Problem with Oakleys is that its an expensive one to get wrong!!
