This is a valid point and female readership figures would certainly be higher than purchasers but even if you double the figures (quite generous) that's still less than 10% and I have to go back to the fact that our primary focus has to be the people who hand over their cash for our content and that takes it back to the 97% male demographic

However I certainly agree with the OP and other posters that we have an exciting new generation of female golfers so I will certainly but the topic on the agenda for the next editorial meeting

Yes, having more features, articles, about women may not attract a greater female readership, but would it not improve the magazine for all the current readership, men and women. Surely you are always looking to improve the magazine, and I for one would like to read instruction tips from top lady players, rather than men I have never heard of. I would also like to read articles about life on tour by ladies as well as men.

There is a lot of golf on Sky, but I personally would rather watch the top ladies playing on the US and European tours rather than the men playing on the EuroPro tour or challenge tour. Excellence whether in men or women is more entertaining than mediocrity.

I did express these views when the topic raised its head a while back, and it is still my opinion.

Also, and I grant you this is a very puerile point, but if 97% of the readership is male then surely they would like looking at the odd female? Just about every other magazine or paper does this to some extent.

I'm not sure what % of the people who buy tech magazines like T3 or Stuff is male, I am guessing quite high, but every one has females plastered all over them. And they are not there for their tech knowledge.

Of course I am not advocating gratuitous pictures of bikini clad women golfers (I go to Blair O'Neals twitter feed for that ;)) but I do find it a bit odd that the main golf mags seem to completely ignore the fact that sex sells. Especially in the current climate of fighting for readers. It's as if getting some pleasure from looking at a female is beneath golfers as golf is far to too mature and sensible for that. Still, I suppose you could argue that is what Golf Punk is there for.

If you build it, they will come.
That is very true. I could give you a lengthy explanation as to why the Wiltshire Girls Championship went from 9 entries to 45 within 8 years. It involves politics, sexism, ignorance, promotion, role models and some forward thinking people.

Rugby Sevens and Women's football are two examples of sports that 'THEY' said would never happen. They are now worldwide success stories.
