Golf Random Irritations

When I administer our KO’s I reckon it’s a best it’s 2/3 matches that struggle to get arranged

Out of 12 comps and hundreds of matches I reckon it’s not too much of an issue

Glad to hear it. Usual caveat that all clubs will be a bit different
(oh and unless they all speak up, do you really know how many ppl aren't entering/moaning due to this)

Both me and HID work. We have always offered to use annual leave of necessary to play any knockouts. In the season Saturdays are out for club medals , add in closures for opens and it sometimes doesn't leave many weekend times .

We’re not going to agree as you’re being extremely one sided. You’re happy to acknowledge only being willing to play weekdays is selfish but not those only being willing to do weekends as selfish.

You can’t have it both ways. Different people have different Commitments regardless of what is deemed most people’s recreational time, That’s why I’ve said flexibility has to go both ways. I’m not advocating people have to use annual leave but people have to accept they can’t have it their own way.

On that note I’ve nothing frother to add without going in circles. So wish you luck with your matches. 👍
Ah, but that is not what I said, is it? Either way being inflexible is unhelpful. However there is difference between not wanting to skip the monthly Stableford, against not being able to take an afternoon off work.

Callaway advert during the Masters break showing a pitch repair by levering the grass upwards. Great, show a mass audience how to do it wrong and leave scars all over a green.

Idiots.
Very probably picked up and mentioned elsewhere here...but the Callaway ad during the Masters showing someone repairing a pitch mark the wrong way. Tut tut.
Yep, stupid advert

That’s fine and I have also used annual leave in the past, and will again, where dates can’t be found. However, there needs to be a willingness to abide by the conditions of the competition before I am willing to make that sacrifice.

What happens if someone only works weekends?
Someone has to then take leave.
You could say you are only offering 2 days a week but they are offering 5 so they are making more effort than you are.
The key thing is people trying to play and doing there best to be flexible rather than someone who is trying to be awkward.

Personally I have never had a problem moving things around if possible.
The only time I have ever refused to play is Sunday before 14.00 as that was always my time with the family when the kids were young.
Work is a valid excuse, but as I've said, if someone works every Saturday & Sunday then they should maybe think twice about entering, because they'd be in the minority on that and they must know it will make arranging matches difficult. Especially if it's pairs matches we're talking about.

How much annual leave do you get Olly?
Plenty, but that's irrelevant to the discussion, we are talking in generalities not about me and my matches.

As a teacher, there is no annual leave available. Can’t remember a time where I haven’t managed to play a tie.
Playing in the evening is much simpler as getting a time at the weekend is not guaranteed.
I mean, yeah, teachers finish work half-way through the afternoon don't they??

Enter 3 Club knockouts every year.

Never struggled to play a match, simply communication.

If I had the issues some of you face on here I wouldn’t bother, never heard anything like it.

My favourite was the one I touched upon earlier - as soon as the draw was announced we agreed a date to play, it was on the last Saturday before the deadline (a month in advance), but all four of us were happy to play then. Then a day before the match one of them said "Oh is it Saturday? I thought we booked it for Sunday, I can't make the Saturday." His partner couldn't do the Sunday. That was the one where I had to change my work from home day at the last minute so I could get down at 5pm on Monday night to play it and we lost. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Perhaps you shouldn’t have agreed to change? Once a date is set then they should have gone out.

Each round at ours has a set date to be played by, no extensions regardless of reason, if a date can’t be agreed and no one is at fault it goes to coin toss.

It’s exactly what you said or alluded to. You stated those who can’t play weekends are the ones who shouldn’t play, you’ve even said it’s selfish of them but won’t acknowledge it the other way round. You can try and get out of it with wording but the sentiment is the same!

I’ve not once mentioned people not playing because they’re wanting to play the monthly Stableford instead then that’s a different argument and not the conversation we were having! Bit pointless going back and forth over it trying to hammer home a point by adding in extra caveats. I’ve stated all along both need to be flexible there really is no come back to that so there’s nothing else to say!

My memory is hazy now but I believe we were told that both teams would go out if match not arranged. Or perhaps we just wanted to do everything in our power to actually play rather than go through that way. Or a combination of both.

If they can't play any weekends at all then that clearly makes it a lot more difficult to arrange matches. It would be the assumption that most people work on weekdays. Regardless, people have to meet in the middle somewhere and get matches played, obviously. But yeah, equally bored of this now.
