Golf Random Irritations

Have you tried getting a Sharpie and writing '8' on the 9 iron and so on? Should help.
I actually thought about something like that as an aid at first.
But that would only prolong the time for me to become thought-fluent in my new irons' language, if you know what I mean. And that is how I want to be.

I have written a large 42 on the P and 47 on the U, though. My other two have 52 and 58 stamped on them.

On a more comical note...
:LOL::LOL:My other option is to use a set of 9 iron covers 3-9,PW,SW :LOL::LOL:

Are the ISV’s aware of this ?
You would have to assume that EG have been in communication with them as they have already announced it at a series of regional County Update meetings over recent weeks. It would be odd to leave the businesses that are effected out of the loop as I assume they are going to have to change their software in some way.

IG today were going on about the enhanced “General Play Score” entry on the New App - would seem like a waste of a feature

Could’ve posted this in the pro gold thread but it irritates me so here we are.

What is with Sky PGAT coverage showing Whoop band stats of player heart rates on some of the tee shots. Then commentators going nuts about the HR readings, comments like “we may have a medical situation here as his HR just hit 147”

Don’t know why it’s irritating me but it’s just not needed and clueless commentary for sound bites and now they’re talking about their own whoop readings 😒

Bad time at the driving range last night. First the Trackman screen froze up on my bay so I had to move to another bay that I don't like (it has a pillar on the left which makes me think I'm going to hit it with my club so I end up not following through properly).

Then three lads joined the range in the bays behind me. At least two of them seemed to be beginners - but they were seemingly trying to smash driver as hard as possible. One of them hit the side of the bay or maybe the lawnmower to the left of the range, because the ball went flying back across the range bays and narrowly missed me and few others. Later a similar thing happened again, a ball comes flying across and hits the divider in front of my bay, luckily I was back by the touchscreen at the time. They were giving it all "Where did that even go lol" so I shouted across - "it hit my bay - do you maybe want to calm down before you kill somebody?" Followed by awkward silence. I felt bad for saying it straight away - I know they've got to start somewhere and I didn't really want them to think all golfers are grumpy bastards (even though we mostly are!). But I was genuinely a bit shaken by being peppered with balls from behind me where I can't see.

Hit most of my remaining balls pretty crap after that and it felt like a waste of time. 😕

This sounds like a 'you' problem
I'f you can't go to the range wearing the appropriate kevlar vest and helmet logo'd under your golf apparel brand of choice , then you've only got yourself to blame :p

In my experience, it’s better to politely speak up right away in situations like this.

If you let it eat away at you, you tend to get upset and react irritably, which in turn triggers defensive reactions in the other person and can lead to an escalation.

Besides, it’s better for your emotional well-being…! 😁

I dunno, I still felt bad. But I just couldn't relax after that, it put me on edge. I thought about apologising to him when I left but I was still annoyed then so I didn't bother.

Speaking up is not the British way. Better to remain silent quietly seething.

I don’t think you live in the UK? Next time you come here, put your phone on loudspeaker full volume in a train carriage and watch annoying videos. Everyone will be irritated with you but nobody will say anything 😂

No, you're right, I'm not British, let alone English! 🫣

And it's true, I've often read that this way of responding is frequently considered rude.

Nevertheless, I've had very good experiences with it. I think it all comes down to the tone: what goes around comes around! 🤷‍♀️

I cannot find you original post.

What I find very annoying is the assumption that everybody has a smart phone and or a contract phone with data included. Our club stopped putting the local rules on the card and they accessed by using a QR code on the card. Personally I am glad I know them any way as I use a PAYG phone and no way would I use it on the course for data purposes.

I agree.
However the cynic in me says that the ‘powers that be’ think that non smart phone users are a declining breed as well a small current fraction of golfers and an even smaller proportion of golfers who return GP scores. So driving all traffic to the EG App is a business decision not an inclusion one.

The number of those without a phone to enable them to enter scores is very very small now

Rightly or wrongly the world does move on

Smart phones have helped golf and golfers hugely

Think that sums it up Perfectly. My dad was an absolute technophobe, but even he had an iPhone and an iPad in his 70s so the he book himself tee times and check scores.

Like you said time moves in and instead of being resistant to change for the sake of it people need to accept they need to move forward.

Well, I do have a smartphone, but when I play golf, I put it on silent and stow it in my bag. I only bring it along so I can call for help in an emergency.

I record my scores the old-fashioned way—with a pencil and a piece of paper—and then enter them into an Excel spreadsheet on my computer.

That’s enough for me.

The imbecile who invented the quick lock system for soft spikes should be put up against a wall and shot.

I try and change mine regularly, run the soles under hot water before trying to remove the old ones, and yet it’s still a horrible battle getting them out.

An hour it’s just taken me, with the blistered hands to show for it.
