Golf Random Irritations

It would be fun up to a point. But, when it becomes ridiculous, where the outcome is almost completely extreme crazy golf and random, then not for me at all.

In the photos I would definitely be feeling an aggressive shot to scratch paint or cause partial damage to green keeping equipment would be fully deserved.

Some are pretty extreme but they're all doable of course. Sometimes you need an element of luck to get it in, but it's a scramble for that reason. If you're smart enough to leave one close-ish and show the others the line, you'll get one of them in before long. In the case of the obstacles, you just need to make sure one of you puts their approach shot the correct side of it, that's all.

Just went to watch the Dunhill golf with the wife, went into the lounge and she said the idiot Radar was commentating so has turned off......
I do not see what you Pom's like about him.....for us he is a real pain.

My wife just bought a Big Max Aqua waterproof cart bag.
First trip out yesterday revealed it to be anything but waterproof.
And the weather wasn't terrible - constant rain, but not heavy.
When you pay £200 for a bag it better do what it says on the tin.
Absolutely not fit for purpose. It'll be going back for a refund.

I've only played green keepers revenge twice in my life I think.

The first time was at Bolton old links with two forumers. Louise and liverbirdie.

We had a blast. It was winter time so you could afford to take things less serious. Just enjoy the day for what it was.

The first hole has a rise up to a green above you. I hit a great looking approach to the back flag. When I got up there the flag was just pushed into the green. The hole had a tiny pin which was blind from down below. A full lenght putt was needed back down to the pin. Thanks Mr greenkeeper. 1 nil to you already.

Other holes of note had about 5 flags on the green so you had no idea which one actually had the hole. Sneaky.

I somehow shot 36 points that day. Walked in and asked what was winning. Boy in the shop said a 40 was in so I said thanks binned the card and left. Seen the winning score online the next day was 35 haha. Learnt a lesson that day too.

I've had a couple of things from Big Max and didn't like any of them. I wouldn't ever go with them again to be honest.

I had a Big Max Tour for years that was absolutely waterproof. The zips were all still working and in tact when I sold it.
I’ve just replaced it with a Big Max Hybrid and that too has been waterproof, and was well tested.

Just seen The Seniors Open Team price for Hillside £840 for a team of 4. I remember when we played in it a few years’ ago you had to be quick off the mark. Price was realistic.

Booking opened on 1/10/25 and 1 team has booked.

Greenkeeper’s revenge, a waste of a good day on a golf course.

I have never played in one but would love to. The idea of being able to actual blame someone else for my rubbish score appeals to me greatly.

Golf OZ updating our system and it is still not in......someone scored 48 points yesterday and there are no handicap updates till the system is up and running fully next week,

How do these guys get a job where you can take over a week to upgrade.

So he will play all week off the handicap he started on.....maybe another 48 points is in the cards.

Sometimes IT isn't so easy, and everything goes wrong - especially with updates or upgrades, *ANYTHING* can happen!

And sometimes you might discover a bug that no one else has encountered before - BTDT (MS Access database, SQL version)!

Based on my own experiences, I am therefore always cautious with such judgments, especially when I wasn't there and can't judge for myself what happened.

So my request is: give the guys a little more credit and be patient!

Worked IT for over 40 years and know all about upgrades, been involved in major changes with Banking Retail Insurance Telco companies etc, was called back to England for Y2 upgrades, so know I don't have a lot patience for when they take over a week for an upgrade, they have had over a year to plan this.

Can just imagine the uproar if your Bank said they were closing for over a week to do an upgrade, close branches ATM's EFTPOS etc.

Maybe I'm getting old and cranky.

And my tuppence worth is that there are some project upgrades or changes that you can test only so far but not end2end and completely…the best you can do is have a roll-back solution if it goes wrong the side or aspect of the upgrade that you couldn’t test.

You can test, test and test again, but when you deploy things can still go wrong.
BUT... if you haven't got a way to back out the deployment and reinstate the previous working system, you've failed QA 101.

There's an old Dilbert strip that explains why this happens. I can't find the strip itself online, but the gist of it is:
Dogbert (as consultant): "And then we switch off the old system and turn on the new one"
