Golf Pairs 5hr30 rounds becoming the norm?

If you are comparing slow comp play now to a time when it was 2 balls only, that really isn't comparing like with like. I can fly round in a two ball, the moment courses add a 3rd and a 4th player into groups, the whole situation changes. With membership sizes now, no way could clubs go back to that.
I do not disagree with that, it is why I stated 'more 4 balls playing'.
Perhaps it is an area clubs should embrace with a 2 ball only until say 9.30, 3 balls until 11.30 then 4 balls after that.
I assume slow players are also late risers, or is that that just a really bad assumption 😲 ;)

It’s largely a result of too many being oblivious regarding their responsibilities when it comes to pace of play.

In a comp at ours yesterday the third group out lost a hole and a half on the group in front of them, but because they were not being pushed by those behind, who lost over two holes by the time they’d finished, they felt no need to pick up their pace.

Whilst attitudes like that prevail there will always be problems. The first group yesterday finished in 3 hours 55 minutes - the fourth group in 4 hours 30. And everyone behind them was even slower, primarily because of the complete ignorance of just two groups.

We just had our Club Championships on the weekend. I normally expect it to be slow, but both rounds I was done in under 4 hours. Pleased with that.
